THIS SUNDAY: Marche du Nain Rouge

I missed the Marche last year, and I've been regretting it for 12 months. Can't miss it this year! It's one of the coolest recurring events in Detroit. Bring your red and black, bring your noisemakers, and bring your sweet ass, because this one is gonna be BIG.

Sunday, March 24, 2013
The Marche starts at 1pm, from the parking lot of Traffic Jam and Snug at

Do not come as you are. Come as you once were, or yet could be.

More than 300 years ago, around the same time the city of Detroit was founded, Detroiters of yesteryear discovered an evil force. This evil had a name: The Nain Rouge, the red dwarf of Detroit. The people, the city itself… no one was safe from the plague of the Nain, not even the founder of Detroit, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. The malevolent spirit cursed generations, wreaking merry havoc on the city and bringing ill tidings to many. But early Detroiters fought back: On the Saturday closest to the spring Equinox, the people of Detroit came together for La Marche du Nain Rouge, a ritual banishment of Le Nain. But march though they might, the Nain never departed for long. The city was safe — until his fearful return the at the winter Solstice.
