A night filled with alternative acoustic music blended with indie and soul, coming to the Royal Oak Music Theatre on Wednesday March 11th, 2009.

Missy Higgins, a 24 year old Australian native, has recently has been enjoying phenomenal success in her homeland. Her style of music that she's adopted has a timeless approach, relying on her undeniable songs and unforgettable live performances to forge a genuine connection with her audience. Higgins began her music career singing standards when she was 13 years old in her older brother’s band. In 2001, Missy was ushered into the limelight after winning a national songwriting competition held by a very influential national radio station. Instead of jumping at the opportunity to kick-start her career, she chose to backpack around Europe.

When she returned in late 2003 she released her self-titled EP that reached the top of the indie charts. Airplay on L.A.’s tastemaker station, KCRW, led to a stateside deal with Warner Brothers Records. Her new album, “On a Clear Night,” was awarded the Highest Selling Australian album of 2007 and she was crowned with another ARIA Award (Australia’s version of the Grammy’s) as the country’s “Best Female Artist” for the second time. The new album, produced by Mitchell Froom, (Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, and Crowded House) reflects Missy’s newfound confidence and changing worldview through the quiet strength of her new songs. Justin Nozuka is a 20 year old Japanese-American who was born in New York and raised in Toronto, he is the sixth of seven children. He hails from a talented family which includes his aunt Kyra Sedgwick (wife of Kevin Bacon), Warhol superstar Edie Sedgwick, and his brother Philip (Chester Hosoda from televisions Degrassi: The Next Generation). Nozuka’s style blends elements of neo-soul, old-time blues and pop; having the guts of Ray Lamontagne and the soul of Lauryn Hill.

During his short, yet growing career, Justin has shared the stage with greats like John Cale, Crowded House, and Ziggy Marley as well as up-and-comers Sam Roberts, Jully Black, and Xavier Rudd. Justin has had the opportunity to play his “superior acoustic soul…” at the Irish music festival Oxygen, T in the Park, and the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX. In February 2008, Nozuka was nominated for a Juno Award and in March of 2009 will be joining John Mayer for Mayercraft 2.

His debut album Holly is named after his mother who has supported his chosen career in music. For more information visit www.justinnozuka.com
