"KNOWLEDGE IS POWER" LIGHTS UP THE LIBRARY IN PROJECTION-MAPPING PERFORMANCE FOR DLECTRICITY!

(Design image: Gabriel Hall)

The weekend of October 5th & 6th the city will be illuminated in spectacle for DLECTRICITY - Detroit's Nightime Exhibition of Art & Light. The festival will host 35 local, national and international artists whose cutting edge works of art, lighting design and performance will highlight the historic architecture of Midtown.

The main branch of the Detroit Public Library will host a unique narrative performance, presented by New D Media, bearing the title carved over the gate, "Knowledge is Power."

A spectacle both concert and cinema, this state-of-the-art theatrical display by local visual artists Gabriel Hall and Daniel Land, with lighting director Gabe Rice, will illuminate the Woodward facade and lawn of the Library. Renowned songstress Audra Kubat leads an original score of electronic soundscapes with live vocals and special guest musicians.

Projection-mapped 3D animation, dynamic optical illusions, and dimensional cinema tell the human story of knowledge by bringing the face of our Library to life in mythic scale. From Cave Painting to Ancient Greece; the tragic destruction of the Library of Alexandria to the invention of books, the dawn of electricity, and the rise of the Internet.

Live DJ sets with an ambient interactive interface will operate between shows for the remainder of the festival.

Arrive at dusk (twilight 7:35 pm-actual) for the first performance to begin at dark, in front of the Detroit Public Library located at 5201 Woodward Avenue, Detroit. Knowledge is Power will be presented both nights of Dlectricty, Fri. Oct. 5 from 7:35 - 12 am and Sat. Oct. 6 from 7:35 - 2 am.
