Opening Saturday, April 24th, 5-8pm
Kevin Tolman: Palimpsest

In Robert Kidd Gallery's most recent collection of paintings, Detroit native Kevin Tolman poses a paradox: The deafening power of a quiet canvas...
Visualize multiple layers of space in close proximity, each activated by brilliantly placed marks and forms. It is as if the viewer can peer through the quiet patchwork fabric of each composition to glimpse a more frenetic underlying field. As the spatial layers merge into one, their combined energies create a powerful yet elegant balance. Handsome, largely reductive palettes dance with affable sgraffito and gestural line... these paintings reflect Tolman's unrestrained intuition, unfettered by precedent. Tolman has exhibited his work for more than 35 years, and is represented in private, public and corporate collections both in the U.S. and abroad.
Kevin Tolman: Palimpsest - Exhibition opens Saturday, April 24th and continues through June 5th at Birmingham's Robert Kidd Gallery. Contact Karen or Ben for further information, (248) 642-3909
