Transfer, the latest band to carry the coveted indie-torch of San Diego’s venerated rock scene, will release their new three song single on iTunes on November 23rd and will support this single with ten dates on the road opening for Brandon Flowers of the Killers.

Childhood friends Jason Cardenas and Matthew Molarius formed this rock band, along with Shaun Cornell and Andy Ridley. Drawing inspiration from the 60s Brit rock scene ala Zeppelin, Beatles, Floyd - Transfer crafts a sound of their own that nods to said classic rock luminaries but also carries a contemporary zeal that resurrects the thoughtful sentiments of My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses, Kings of Leon, and Arcade Fire.
Footnoting recent UK tour dates with Brandon Flowers,Transfer has been receiving incredible attention in the United Kingdom with at least two significant press pieces coming out this December. One is a Q Magazine feature entitled “Faces for 2011” in which Transfer is selected as one of the best new bands for the coming year. Clash Magazine will also highlight the band in their December, “Ones to Watch” feature, also selecting Transfer as the premiere American band to watch in 2011.

Shawn “Origix” Featherston and Tim “D.C.” Patterson met in Jr.High School, making mix tapes of their favorite music, to grow up hosting their own Radio program at 89.3 WHFR.FM at Henry Ford Community College. In 2002, when commercial radio was changing drastically, The Zone Radio was born on the far end of the FM Dial, and became more of a community project than a simple radio show. Origix & D.C felt it was their mission to expose what Real Hip Hop still is. Guest’s on The Zone range from Talib Kweli, Cypress Hill, Yukmouth, Tech N9ne, Black Milk, Kid Cudi, Bizzy Bone, Slug of Atmosphere and Twizitid. For Three hours every Monday night listeners are able to hear a new pay list of independent music, news, live performances and information about Hip Hop artists.
Tim Kasher's debut solo album The Game Of Monogamy is another example of the solid Saddle Creek Records roster. Already renowned for his literate and thematic songwriting with bands Cursive and The Good Life, the album is Kasher's first release under his own name.
The Game Of Monogamy is more of an arranged record than any of his previous releases and has been catching the attention of the press, including Alternative Press (4-star review), Spin, USA Today, The A.V. Club, and Filter, among others. The album - filled with deceptively catchy classic pop, sweeping, grand arrangements, and alternately stark and lush instrumentation - explores the wide range of distinctly human emotions tangled up around relationships in a starched shirt society. The Game Of Monogamy was written and recorded in Whitefish, MT, last winter, co-produced by Kasher and Patrick Newbery (of Cursive, Lacona, Head Of Femur; who also helped with the arrangements and plays on the record). Erin Tate (Minus The Bear) and Matt Maginn (Cursive) also contributed drum and bass parts, respectively, and members of the Glacier National Symphony added classical instrument parts.

Before I even get to the other attendees, respect must be given to the staff. 
I wasn't sure what to expect from our fellow attendees, except that there would be a lot of people there I'd never met. That, for me, is often a big plus. I like the new faces and new conversations, especially in such gorgeous environs. Everyone happy, everyone moving, everyone shoulder-to-shoulder in their support of the DIA. And hey, any one of you can call me any time. 
The Gala officially ended at 1am, and near that time, the MCB crew decided to go visit another spot to meet up with some friends and hear some killer live music. Off we went to the Northern Lights, which I've said before gets my vote for best women's bathroom in Detroit. This... was not the right choice. As good as it was to see a couple of familiar folk, we only lasted one drink before the band chased us away. That was all right by me, as I had an even better suggestion which I'd been lobbying for since early in the night -- the Detroit Subgenius Devival at the Old Miami.
Just a heads up that Harper Blynn will be in Ann Arbor on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH at Blind Pig.

Named for its two principle songwriters, Pete Harper and J.Blynn, with drummer Sarab Singh and Dutch bass player called "Whynot," Harper Blynn continue their hectic touring schedule this fall with a full North American tour in October and November with Greg Laswell. After five appearances at the CMJ Festival in New York - Along with originals from their critically acclaimed Loneliest Generation (produced by David Kahne and Malcolm Burn), Harper Blynn is known for peppering their live shows with incredible covers of songs ranging from the Stone's "Loving Cup" to Beyonce's "Halo," in which they add a bit of Dirty Projectors' song "Cannibal Resource" for good measure.
