DETROIT, MI - The Corpus Illuminata Exposition of Anatomic Interpretation is proud to announce and welcome a special honored guest to it's 5th annual event...composer, musician, storyteller, and sonic archaeologist JILL TRACY (San Francisco).  Since 1995, Jill Tracy has garnered multiple awards and a passionate following for her eerie and beautiful cinematic music, sophisticated lyrics, old-world glamour, and curious passion for strange tales.  She has been hailed by the LA Weekly as the "cult darling of the Underworld," and San Francisco Chronicle has named her the "femme fatale for the thinking man."  With six albums to her credit, her dark seductive music has appeared on CBS, NBC, PBS, and numerous independent and feature films.
Within Corpus Illuminata on 14-15 August, Jill Tracy will share her intimate experiences with the renowned Mütter Museum in Philadelphia, the nation's foremost collection of medical oddities, to which she became the first musician in history to receive a grant to compose within the museum itself.  Then she will close the exposition with a rare solo performance within the gallery amidst the anatomic/medical-inspired artwork.
This will mark Jill Tracy's second visit to Detroit since her well-received performance at the DAMNED Exhibition's Masquerade Ball in 2009.
Visit Jill Tracy's official website: www.jilltracy.com.
Corpus Illuminata is held on 14-15 August at Tangent Gallery/Hastings Ballroom  in Detroit and consists of one part exhibition of anatomic-inspired artwork, one part academia of accredited presentations and one part bazaar of medical antiquities and oddities.

Call For Art - The 8th Annual DAMNED Exhibition of Enlightened Darkness

+ CALL FOR DAMNED ART +
damned -adj. 1. condemned to eternal punishment.
2. detestable; loathsome. 3. complete; absolute
Within the word, it is easy to envision devils and hellfire. However, it also reflects the eternal condemnation of self and the subtle mind against itself. It may reflect the emotional trappings within the haunting ghosts of the past. Perhaps the binding tendrils of our deepest longings or deprivations.
DAMNED is an exhibition of those extraordinary artists who know that without darkness, there is no light, that beauty does reside within the repulsive and enlightenment within our darkest hours. This art may be the one true reflection of self that make us balanced within our personal damnations...or possibly it is an expressive visual therapy...or simply a sign that there is amazingly inexplicable inside without comparison.
Artists of all mediums from anywhere in the world are welcome to submit their work for DAMNED. There are no restrictions on genre or content but the more deeply personal and powerfully introspective, the better. There are no fees to submit and the deadline is September 13 2015.
For further information and to submit, please visit:
For further details on the DAMNED Exhibition, please visit "www.thatdamnedshow.com" or email us at "damned@thatdamnedshow.com".

SHOW REVIEW- Mickey Avalon at Meadow Brook Music Festival on July 25 (with photos and video)

Rapper Mickey Avalon was back in town for some local shows and Motorcityblog was there to soak up all the activity.

Mickey kicked off his Michigan ride on Saturday, July 25 at the 7,700-capacity Meadow Brook Music Festival outdoor amphitheater in Rochester opening for Sublime with Rome. It was a sweltering 88 degree summer day in Michigan, and the crowd got the party started early in the parking lot with tailgating quite prevalent. Libations were in full effect and everyone seemed to be ready for a night of music and fun.

Mickey was first up on a four band bill. He hit the stage only a half hour after the gates opened so many spectators were still coming in as The Ave belted out songs from his short 20 minute set. This is all the time that is allotted for him on this summer tour package, but Mickey made the most of it. Mickey was without any stage dancers this time around and was joined only by his DJ on stage. His set was filled with hits such as Mr Right, Jane Fonda, and Stroke Me. Mickey also found time to perform one new song during his set and closed out with his most recognizable song for even the most lukewarm fan- My Dick.

After his set Mickey stopped by the merch booth to sign autographs and pose for photos. It was hard to find Mickey's fans spread sporadically around such a large venue, but the post show meet and greet brought them together and a few dozen were their to show their love.

At the merch booth, Mickey had his new 5 song EP on a plastic download card comple with a lanyard. The artwork was designed by his own daughter. Very cool merch item for only $5.00.

REVIEW: Esham and Mastamind- Meet and Greet Instore at Rock Of Ages in Garden City (with Photos and Video)

Detroit rap legend Esham had a busy day ahead of him on June 26. With a live concert and after party scheduled later that evening, he decided to kick things off with a special Meet and Greet at Rock Of Ages in Garden City earlier in the day. Motorcityblog was on the scene to catch all the action.

Dozens of fans were already eagerly lined up as Esham and his fellow NATAS group member Mastamind arrived for the special instore. Many fans had merchandise in hand including rare items dating back 25 years such as Esham's debut album Boomin Words From Hell on a red cassette tape.

For one hour Esham and Mastamind had a nonstop line of people wanting to meet the Acid Rap legends. Some came from out of state and even out of Country (Canada Eh!). One fan brought books that he wrote and self published as a gift and signed them for the duo. Esham was sincerely thankful for the effort.

They were accommodating with autographs and photos, even to the point of Esham asking the fans if they wanted a photo with him without them even asking. CD's, posters, body parts, and even the Holy Bible was signed during the meet and greet.

Esham and Mastamind were very gracious with all their fans and left pleasing hundreds of them.
For your viewing pleasure, enjoy this footage from Esham and Mastamind's meet and greet instore courtesy of Ambervillain Films...

We’re very grateful for the support of a local and international community of cinema lovers.”, says Jeremy Rigsby, Media City Program Director.

Featuring
R. RING, Blizzard Babies, Bonehead, Bonnie Doon, Cheerleader, Gashrat, Prude Boys, Sneaks & others

This show and U.S. summer "Rad, White & Blue" tour is in advance of two new R. Ring 7" vinyl split-singles.  The first is with the Detroit-based post-punk band Protomartyr (out now on vinyl via Hardly Art) entitled A Half Of Seven, and features R. Ring's "Loud Underneath" (available now digitally here) and Protomartyr's "Blues Festival" also featuring Kelley Deal on vocals (stream here). R. Ring's second 7" split-single is with Kentucky-based garage rockers Quailbones and will feature the two respective songs "Singing Tower" & "A Tip to Trick the Tide." This single will be released this July in 7" vinyl & digital formats via Sofaburn Records.

R. Ring is Kelley Deal and Mike Montgomery. It is voices, guitars and keys. It is sparse, chaotic, abrasive and lulling, often within the same song. It is new. It is, at the very least, a stark departure from the music they make in their other bands (Kelley with The Breeders and Mike with Ampline). Kelley lives in Dayton, Ohio. Mike lives in Dayton, Kentucky.

R. Ring's 7" split-single with Kentucky-based garage rockers Quailbones will feature the two respective songs "Singing Tower" & "A Tip to Trick the Tide" and will be released this July in 7" vinyl & digital formats via Sofaburn Records. To pre-order the vinyl, go to: www.sofaburn.com

In addition, R. Ring also have a new 7" split-single titled "A Half Of Seven" with Detroit-based post-punk band Protomartyr out now on vinyl through Hardly Art and is available here. R. Ring's song from it "Loud Underneath" is available as a digital download here, and Protomartyr's track "Blues Festival" is available digitally here.

TONIGHT: Lazyeyes @ UFO Factory

wsg The Teen Age
Tuesday 21 July 2015

Brooklyn band Lazyeyes is playing UFO Factory on July 21st, and I wanted to see if you'd be open to running a preview of the show. I'm also happy to list one of your writers/photogs if you have anyone interested in coming out!

Lazyeyes plays hazy, psych-tinged dreampop made up of swirling guitar melodies and reverb-drenched vocals. The band released their New Year EP earlier this year to praise from Stereogum, Interview Magazine, NME, BrooklynVegan and more, and they just shared b-side "Fractals." The b-side will appear on a limited-edition cassette split with tour mates The Teen Age, to be released this summer on Brooklyn's Old Flame Records.

The band has previously shared stages with acts like Gringo Starr and Crocodiles, and their dynamic live set is a mix of upbeat, dance-worthy jams and pulsating slower songs.
