Local Holiday Show Lists Patti Smith in its Roster of Performers
Christmas Jubilee To Include Local Favorites and Award Winning Talent in Benefit of Gleaners
Fans of Patti Smith that missed her appearance at the Detroit Institute of Arts last spring will have a second chance December 16th as she joins with several local artists in another rare performance. This time she will be contributing her musical talent with a short set at a holiday show, Christmas Jubilee, at The Scottish Rite Cathedral inside Detroit's Masonic Temple. A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit Gleaners.
Smith, known by some as the Godmother of punk, has inspired masses through her poetry, music, and art. The first exhibition of her photography in the United States, Camera Solo, came to the DIA last June and her performance there in conjunction with the exhibit quickly sold out. Her appearance at Christmas Jubilee will undoubtedly be a highlight of the holiday season for many.
The show will be hosted by local Americana trio Jennifer Westwood and the Waycross Georgia Farmboys, who have assembled an all-star house band for the occasion. Other performers include platinum selling recording artist and Sponge front man Vinnie Dombrowski, Atlantic Records' Ty Stone, award winning blues singer Chef Chris, singer/songwriter Nicole Atkins, as well as other local favorites such as Don Duprie, The Thornbills, Jody Raffoul, and the affectionately billed Curmudgeons featuring Erich Goebel and James Cloyd Jr.
"We have some other surprises in store", Says Dylan Dunbar of the Farmboys. "There will be appearances by other musicians, that have been influential in the Detroit scene and beyond".
Tickets start at $25 and are available at Ticketmaster. Call 1-888-855-3110 for the Christmas Jubilee hotline for updates and information.
