Win a free CD from Chicago-based singer-songwriter Anne Heaton who is hitting the road in December
for a series of dates opening for Melissa Ferrick and for dates as part of the
Winterbloom collective
The
title track from Heaton’s recently released album, Honeycomb, went into
rotation in November in Starbucks stores, where it is receiving airplay across
the country.
Honeycomb was released on October 16, 2012. Produced by Heaton,
Gary Maurer (HEM, Shakespeare in The Park) and Mike Denneen (Aimee Mann), the
album features 12 songs and is organized into two moods (like the traditional
side A and side B of vinyl records) – euphoric and meditative – with a uniting
theme of impermanence. Honeycomb is enclosed in gorgeous packaging
created by Grammy-winning designer Brian Grunert (Ani DiFranco, Anais Mitchell);
a portion of proceeds from Honeycomb's sales and touring will benefit homeless
children in Colombia through Fundación Niños de los Andes*.
Already in 2012, Heaton has shared stages with Tom Paxton, Peter Mulvey, Antje Duvekot, and Natalia Zukerman, and it is with the latter two (plus Meg Hutchinson) that she is touring as Winterbloom for a series of holiday shows in December. The collective, which is rooted in a tradition of friendship and music, has been touring together since 2008. For a month or so each winter, the group of four singer-songwriters brings their diverse reflections and experiences to the stage for a special holiday-themed show. Heaton also joins Melissa Ferrick for a handful of dates in December. With Heaton and Ferrick utilizing the talents of drummer Dave Brophy and bassist Joe McMahon, this Midwest tour will be a new experience for old time fans and a pleasant surprise for anyone coming to see them for the first time. The singer-songwriters have known each other for over a decade and their longtime friendship provides a special evening of stories and song. *A portion of all proceeds from Anne's tour this Fall will be donated to Fundación Niños de los Andes, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, protection and rehabilitation of street children in Bogota, Colombia (and other towns throughout the country). Anne met many of these street children in 2008 when she visited the Fundación and had an opportunity to hear their stories and learn about their lives. To create awareness, Anne turned some of these stories into songs. (This project is coming in 2014.) This organization remains close to Anne's heart, and she wants the children to know she cares about them by donating to the organization. Fundación Niños de los Andes helps children, who have lived in violent and insecure conditions, to recuperate psychologically, physically and spiritually, and to reintegrate into society.
