MOVEMENT Electronic Music Festival: 10 Years in Detroit in 2016

2016 marks Movement Electronic Music Festival's 10 year anniversary in Detroit.

For the last decade thousands of people from all over the world have come together in Detroit to celebrate music right here, in the birthplace of Techno. Paxahau's incarnation of the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF) began in 2006 and has since grown the event to become one of the top electronic music festivals in the world.

Continuing to showcase local artists alongside world renowned acts, Movement not only offers the music and culture, but heavily boosts the local economy in Detroit.

The first phase of the anniversary lineup was officially released today.
(Yes, this is just phase 1!)

Tickets are on sale now at www.movement.us

DEMF Makes It's Return to Detroit Alongside FEMT in Summer 2014

We've been waiting for over a decade, 12 years to be exact.  Carol Marvin, creator of the Detroit Electronic Music Festival proudly announced the return of DEMF, the original 3-day free electronic music festival, to Campus Martius in 2014.  DEMF will be held over 4th of July weekend, celebrating the Nation's birthday as well as the month of Detroit's significant 313th.

During the official announcement at Ford Field, Marvin highlighted DEMF's positive contribution to Detroit during it's span as a free festival in Hart Plaza including substantial spending, influence on employment and Detroit's global appeal.
She discussed the importance of technology and the science behind electronic music noting the change of tools and vision in the industry, introducing us to FEMT, also happening July 4-6, 2014 at Ford Field.

At $250 for the weekend, Federation of Electronic Music Technology, FEMT, will not simply be a music fest, but a technological showcase.  This event will feature science, art and music combined with interactive technology and legendary live performances, including Juan Atkins and Rick Davis' project Cybotron's first live performance ever.

The Movement festival, what became Hart Plaza's Memorial Day Weekend incarnation of the original DEMF, will still take place at the end of May.  Often seen as the official summer kick-off, Movement will return under the production of Paxahau.  Citing the historic influence of Detroit on Techno and all music, Marvin said Detroit could host many electronic music festivals.  Though the events are less than 2 months apart from one another, with one being free I don't doubt that Detroit and its visitors can support both weekends.

Movement Weekend Party Guide

Movement, the festival formerly known as DEMF is upon us as Memorial Weekend, one of the biggest summer-kickoff weekends in Detroit (the biggest for electronic music fans), is just a few days away.  The 13th installment of our annual dance music showcase is almost here.  On the heels of the electronic music's explosive rise to the mainstream, Movement 2013 is sure to be another great success and important display of Detroit to those coming from afar.

So many venues, promoters and both local and out-of-town talent have kicked it up a notch this year with parties literally happening everywhere at every time.  Here are some of the highlights of what will be going on around Movement this year.

MOON BOOTS - French Express - USA

Moon Boots entered the world in the mid-1980s via Cape Canaveral. After years of service as the preferred footwear of celebrity astronauts (notably Tom Hanks), Moon Boots came to life during a classified experiment aboard the International Space Station. Little is known of what actually transpired aboard the shuttle, but in short, Moon Boots became a sentient creature, equipped with reason, intuition, and groove.

Before long, he grew tired of working for the space-military-industrial complex and found solace in the soothing sounds of underground disco and R&B boogie records. He knew it was only of matter of time before he was hung up like so many boots before him. He abandoned the program and used his savings to build a music-production studio in an unnamed U.S. location, where he is currently working.

MuzzY is Detroit-Based Producer/Musician Dan Hacker. Thrust onto the scene at a young age, Dan found solace in the old school. Stylistically blending Motown and Jazz samples with modern hip-hop drum breaks, his music can best be described as "Soul-Hop". He combines a wide variety of influences from Stevie Wonder, to Led Zeppelin, to J Dilla with his own live Guitar playing; which together makes for an interesting recipe set to tantalize your ear drums. You can catch MuzzY bringing back the funk around Michigan and the Midwest, and also with the likes of GRiZ and Tone Poets (Live Jam Band with Freddy Todd, ill.so.naj, and Unc).
