Dirty Americana artist Jackie Stahl is back with a new CD! Jackie Stahl and his band The White Russians just released a 5-song covers EP called "Used" and will be performing their eclectic versions of classic songs at a concert on Saturday, February 21, 9 p.m. at PJ's Lager House.
Opening the show is the surf rock group known as Ponzi, along with alternative-country act, Poor Player. The White Russians take the stage at midnight to perform their "Dirty Americana" music and celebrate the release of their second record.
Jackie Stahl & The White Russians is the project of veteran musician Matthew Stahl whose vast work includes playing drums in the bands The Blue Collar Boys, Catfish Mafia, Bixy Lutz, and Jennifer Westwood & The Waycross Georgia Farmboys, just to name a few. After learning to play the piano, he began writing and recording songs in his home studio. For his second release he re-assembled the band to include new musical colleagues: guitarist Niko Eklund, bassist Jeremy Mackinder and drummer Max Bauhof. He recruited musician Jason Charboneau to play cello and guitar and join him on the record.
The band plays what they describe as "Dirty Americana" music, influenced by Detroit rock, country, blues, jazz, and soul. The new CD, "Used," however, is a totally different excursion that features five selected cover songs done in their own style."'Used' is the title of our follow-up EP of new arrangements to some of my favorite old classics. As the title suggest, these songs are worn, tattered and slightly distressed. And most importantly I'm saying hey, I'm not the original owner here," Stahl says.
The band covers a variety of songs that range from R&B to '70s hard rock to '80s electronic rock. Featured are; "Youngblood" by The Coasters, "Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth, "Thursday" by Morphine, "Big Boss Man" by Jimmy Reed and Luther Dixon and Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus." The EP was produced by Stahl and Max Bauhof, engineered by Bauhof and Jimmy Dixon, and mastered by Jim Kissling. It was recorded at Homestead Studios.
