XD WEI - Memphis Smoke - Tues Oct 30th

XD WEI (Paul, Leo, Djeto & Xiao Dong) will be playing a full set at 9pm Tuesday 10/30 at Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak at 100 S. Main St. The Troubadours play after. No cover...

MCB Mini Review:
Along with XD was Paul Ossy (small guitar) - Djeto Juncat (guitar) - Leo Gillis (bass)

Caught most of the show which included Led Zep cover and a few really cool sounding "chinese blue grass" jams - this combo really blends well together with each player bringing a distinctive component to the song and suprisingly blending in or standing out from each other at just the right time.
Check them out at the Corktown Tavern and/or The Magic Stick on November 9th and December 15th - worth the effort for sure!

TRICK OR TREATING - Downtown Royal Oak - Sun Oct 28th 2pm-4pm

TRICK OR TREATING IN DOWNTOWN ROYAL OAK

Sunday, October 28, more than 3,000 goblins, monsters, ghosts and other-worldly creatures will descend on Downtown Royal Oak for “Spooktacular Trick or Treating”, from 2pm-4pm. Trick or treating will take place along Main Street, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Washington Avenue. “This is a great Royal Oak tradition that attracts parents and children from all over. It is our way of opening up our stores and restaurants and offering a safe and fun alternative for parents to take their kids trick or treating,” said restaurateur and DDA Board member Luigi Cutraro.
I spoke with Sylvia, owner of RISE Clothing on Washington Blvd - She was outside passing out candy to trick or treaters and mentioned that this event gets bigger and better every year.
"It's just great to see this many familys out on the street having so much fun."
We agree - BOO!

AN EVENING OF PALESTINIAN ARTISTRY - Arab American National Museum - Thur Oct 18th

AN EVENING OF PALESTINIAN ARTISTRY AT AANM

In conjunction with the Arab American National Museum’s current exhibition, Threads of Pride: Palestinian Traditional Costumes, a special evening celebrating various aspects of Palestinian identity has been scheduled for Thursday, October 18, 2007.

The public is invited to attend a free reception, lecture and slide show on Palestinian embroidery styles and their interpretations presented by Rabiah Shafie of the Palestine Aid Society, beginning at 6 p.m. A question and answer session and a sale of embroidered items follow the lecture. The reception includes free refreshments. Those wishing to attend should RSVP to 313.624.0200 or fsaad@accesscommunity.org.

Later that evening, at 7:30 p.m., the Ford Comerica Global Thursdays concert series at the AANM offers a rare Midwestern appearance by New York-based actor/author Betty Shamieh. Her triumphant, sold-out performance at the AANM in February 2006 is considered a highlight in the history of the Global Thursdays series, garnering enthusiastic audience response that in part led to this return engagement.

Shamieh, a Palestinian American, will present a one-woman show features excerpts from her many plays. Tickets for the performance are $8 for Museum Members and students; $10 in advance at the Museum or by phone with a credit card at 313.582.2266 or 313.624.0215; and $12 at the door. It takes place in the Museum’s intimate, 156-seat Auditorium. "

Karaoke at Sneakers Pub - Ferndale - Thursdays Oct 11th

"Sneakers Pub Thursday Night Karaoke is really fun!" according to Dave who runs the popular sports bar just south of 9 Mile on Woodward.

I had heard of the Sneaker's Girls before but was pleasantly surprised to find out the rumors were true - not only are they hot but they do remember your name when you pop back in for a quick beer.

The place is very roomy with long bar run - plenty of room to spread out catch the game or sing a tune. I was totally surprised to see so many chicks in a sportsbar slamming beers faster than I was and actually paying attention to the games on the tube.

Check them out this Thursday for karaoke and beers for sure.

LJ's Lounge - Jim Krewson and the Pine Hill Haints - Wed Oct 3rd

I noticed in the MetroTimes an event for Jim Krewson and the Pine Hill Haints at LJ's over in Corktown today....so I went to talk to Richard about the show and LJ's in general since the bar is one of my personal favorites.

The really cool thing about LJ's is the rotating bartenders - there are like 7 of them - different every night...with karaoke on Thursdays but some new events happening in the very near future this old school staple is on the move.
Gay Pride Sundays - Ping Pong Tourny Mondays - Local DJ on Wednesdays - Thursdays Drink Specials - Friday Local Motorcity Hip Hop Showcase - Saturday/Sunday is "Just the LJ Weekend"
Tomorrow night is a great event with some bluegrass / motorocity mixes mixed in - I hope to make it out but in any case - get on down to check out the solo show from Jim Krewson and the Pine Hill Haints and tip the bar well - they have always rocked. Bloodshots are on tap.
Make sure to say hello to LJ and WB!
