A few more suggestions over the next few days....(hint...more MCB vacation ahead)

Skipping out early today and heading out on another shortie vacation starting tomorrow morning after repping the Motorcity Special at WOLFBAIT at Smalls Hamtramck tonight

Wanted to drop a few options for this weekend in case sucking up 10x your daily dose of exhaust wasn't on your list of options....I love the old cars (own a finned 1961) and dig the concept of the Dream Cruise but I was heading to Pontiac last night to check out The Sadies (who BTW played one a fucking awesome festering set that destroyed) and I it took me 40 minutes to get out to The Crofoot. So as soon as I hit the MCB office this morning I scored a nice cottage on the lake and will be going going gone until whenever (at least middle next week)

Here are a few things that may have slipped under your radar

STP with Cage the Elephant and Fang Island (check these guys out)
Thursday August 26th @ Fox Theatre Detroit

Jessica Ripka @ Cliff Bells Detroit on Sunday night

The High Strung play Saturday night at Smalls Hamtramck with the Questions
check this show as THS played a very nice set last night opening for The Sadies

Kinetic Stereo Kids play a show tomorrow at Crofoot Pontiac

The Party Stompers are playing Lager House tonight with Dale Beavers

Check out the Schlapentickle Burlesque and Revue

at Northern Lights Lounge this coming Monday night

Check out the Black Crowes who play a show tonight at The Fillmore Detroit

Throw in a little ass kicking from 3D Invisibles and some fun from the Circus Boy and you know its going to be a good time at one of the best Hamtramck venues around.
What else do we need to say on this one
Skip the Motorcity Special and head on over to this show

Check out Kinetic Stereo Kids new video by Detroit filmaker

In this twisted tale, director/editor James R. Petix (It Came From Detroit, Tokyo Below) explores the idea that companies could implant product memory into the minds of consumers. The video opens with Kinetic Stereokids frontman Justin Ford arriving at a nondescript laboratory testing facility, by way of a cryptic message on the back of a business card. Ford is subjected to a series of experimental treatments by a suspicious-looking team of white coat lab technicians that begin to alter his memories.
Petix’s use of non-linear storytelling and sharp visual style create an alternative reality that forces both Ford and the viewers to piece together the puzzle for themselves.

Camera, Motion Graphics and Design by Nick Forshee

MCB was able to catch up with the band mid-tour on the road
in the van somewhere in the south between Kentucky and California
and ask them a simple question:

What was the making of the new video like?

Justin Ford: It was like going to the dentist and getting a sucker. Free bagels and coffee got me through it, I went up and did my thing on the catwalk. I remember eating cereal, basically I remember mostly food. It was excellent, weird fruitloops, beer in the morning. I really threw myself into this role and practiced my craft. I ate about 5 bowls of cereal a day for a month to perfect the art form.

Mike Steibel: It was basically old stories about girls and their hygiene problems for me. Making people laugh…. The bar was my favorite part cause we were pretty much just hanging out and jamming.

Tony: I got to play manager for the day. I just watched Justin, “the Star” eat food and cha cha dance with all the women. It was totally unfair.

All I did was drink all the booze and pick fights.

Justin: It wasn’t all that glamorous. I was walking around cold ass Detroit fighting off frostbite in soaked shoes. Don’t ask me why. I also had to eat cereal for like 5 hours straight and that’s why at the end it was falling out of my mouth. That stuff went straight to my thighs. I got to keep the cereal in the end.

KSK return to Detroit soon - stay tuned for more info

Pewter Cub // Kinetic Stereo Kids - Lager House - Thur April 23rd

Pewter Cub w/Black Lodge
Kinetic Stereokids
PJs Lager House
1254 Michigan Ave
Corktown Detroit
Thursday, April 23
10pm
Hamtramck's own Pewter Cub (that's "Cub," not "Club," they would like you to note!) is dark. They're the bastard children of drive-in movies and city chicken dinners. The duo's influences include John Carpenter, The Ventures and everything in between. Named to the 2007 "Guns & Ammo" Readers' Poll favorite list!
Detroit's Black Lodge knows the score and has been there before.
Shoegaze without the nerdiness.
Kinetic Stereokids are from Flint and have a delightful homemade sound that's almost like a lo-fi, tripped out Matthew Sweet.. but with far more talented instrumentalizing and really cool looping techniques. Quite awesome, actually.

In February 2008, Kinetic Stereokids headed into Ghetto Recorders to mix Kid Moves with Detroit studio legend Jim Diamond (White Stripes, The Mooney Suzuki, The Dirtbombs). Final tweaks came from Jeff Lipton at Peerless Mastering (Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Wilco). The result is a more sophisticated effort than Basement Kids, while still retaining their distinctive grit. Later in 2008, Overdraft offered the first glimpse of Kid Moves by way of a limited edition 7" and the Have A Nice Day EP, also containing "Explosions Were Heard (Live on KEXP)" from an on-air session at Chicago's Engine Studios.

Overdraft has now released the official video for "Have A Nice Day", featuring intricate digital animation painstakingly created by New York-based editor Kelly Brickner. The video presents the band exploring a manipulated world of complex collages, most of which were scanned from scrapbook diaries created by Kinetic Stereokids' frontmen Justin Ford and Mike Steibel. These collages are vital relics of Kinetic Stereokids history and also serve as the basis for the Kid Moves album art.

The band is currently touring and will continue across the country throughout the summer. Further, a video for Kid Moves' second single, "Twisted Thoughts," is in production from Detroit-based filmmaking duo James Petix and Sarah Babila, creators of the highly anticipated Detroit garage rock documentary It Came From Detroit.

So today marks 4 years of MCB anti-blogging....
1st off - We love Dietroit
MCB is simply our way of helping to promote the talent here in the motorcity
I have traveled all over for years and coming back to the motorcity was one of the best decisions I ever made for a laundry list of reasons that have nothing to do with this silly website.

2nd - thanks to all the MCB contributors with the quality work - you are awesome!
3rd - big shout out to the venues who support us and recognize what MCB is/does

Finally thanks to the readers - the feedback we get is greatly appreciated and although we dont monitor the traffic the emails come from all over the world. Example - we ran the Duran Duran free vinyl yesterday and seriously got email from at least 7 other countries...this is typical.
We would also like to thank EATTHISCITY for finally adding a MOTORCITYBLOG link to the ranks after winning all kinds of stuff and using our videos...for some unknown reason most of the sites around town won't link to MCB and thats fine...
check ETC out for a true "blog" about the music scene in dietroit
