THIS SATURDAY! The Orb at the Magic Bag

Touring on the heels of their 13th studio album, Moonbuilding 2703, The Orb make their way to the Magic Bag for a very rare small club appearance this Saturday night.

Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann AKA Veritable pioneers of electronic music The Orb return to Kompakt with the new full-length Moonbuilding 2703 AD - a major piece of psychedelic synth bliss, obscure loops and deep ambient textures, driven by swinging breakbeats and powerful bass-lines. Or, as Alex says in his own words, “it's a solid piece of music that mutates into an eight legged lunar Land Rover and takes off into a cosmic horizon of a million sounds, patterns and textures. It spins the listener on his/her head, rewiring their brains to maximum capacity, then brings them home, sweet home.” Moonbuilding 2703 AD is inspired by this place called earth and the idea that in the future mankind discovers its root element in the ancient rocks on solar moons, which are based on musical harmonies, that despite being imprinted a billion lights years ago, are set to the same tempo as the Orb”, he adds.

On the creative atmosphere in the studio, Thomas Fehlmann states, “this album and the process of its production makes me feel real good.  An important part of the excitement is that our working system has reached a level where we are closer than ever to an automatic recognition of each other’s ideas, and ways to transform those into sound without explanation, so we could draw directly from our creative engines.” Installing a forward momentum rather unusual for a genre-defying project like this, the latest effort from these sonic masterminds follows their 2005 album on Kompakt, the cheekily named ‘Okie Dokie It's The Orb On Kompakt’, plus several contributions to its ‘Speicher’ and ‘Pop Ambient’ series. But, more importantly, it finds the legendary duo at the peak of their creativity, ringing in another essential phase in a ground-breaking career. The new offering features a small track list, but turns each one of its four cuts into a mini epic in its own right. Opener “God’s Mirrorball” hits the ground floating, employing a handful of cosy statics to great effect before finally discharging into an intricate mosaic of atmospheric melodic sketches and gripping rhythms. With a hypnotic runtime of more than fourteen minutes, it immediately establishes a blueprint for the other album tracks to follow, perfectly illustrating the vast extent of the artists' vision and their impressive skills in luring in listeners.

Likewise, second track “Moon Scapes 2703 BC” presents itself as a uniquely versatile affair, sitting comfortably between ambient flourishes and beat-driven focus, holding as many twists and turns as a caper movie, but carefully grounding every single one of its cliffhangers in its impeccable flow. With a runtime of approximately nine minutes, “Lunar Caves” is the shortest jam of the bunch - and also the most ethereal, keeping its rhythmic content to a bare, pulse-like minimum and opting for enticing, freewheeling synth textures instead. Album closer and title cut “Moonbuilding 2703 AD” introduces a surprisingly jazzy vibe mingling rather well with the wealth of electronic tricks - even indulging in abrasive bass sweeps and a breathtaking multitude of different rhythm sections, that constantly switch places. It's a fitting closing act for a full-length as multifaceted as this, as idiosyncratic as possible and as muscling as needed. Welcome to The Orb’s aural labyrinth, where nothing is what it seems and the unexpected waits just around the corner

LONG LIVE DEATH : show review by Jeff Howitt 9/13/15 BLIND PIG in ANN ARBOR, MI

Since 2009 the surviving Hackney Brothers along with guitarist Bobbie Duncan who was already playing with them in the Vermont Reggae band Lambsbread have been bringing to Life the Legend of DEATH. A band imagined by Eldest Bother, David Hackney whose Prophetic and specific Vision of the group in name, sound and approach made for a difficult fit in the mid '70's when producers and taste makers in the music industry were working to split up Rock 'n' Roll from what was popular with the People into separate "playlists" and "genres". Becoming just a shade away from the "race records" of old unless you were willing to go Disco.

Regional stations like W4 and CKLW out of Windsor where you could hear Alice Cooper, The Temptations, James Gang and Funkadelic all elbowing past each other were getting beat back by remote programmers, "In Iowa or somewhere in the Mid-West..." as bassist Bobby Hackney was told straight out by the Big Eight's Tom Shannon at the time. This stripped DJ's of the power to play little or almost anything that they happened to like. Gone were the days when you took your acetate to the station and made the case for your record to get broadcast. Payola had gotten sniffed out and in true American fashion became Gift-ola. Still, even when they had a sympathetic ear to the records merit, as you know most could not get past the name. DEATH.

Some may not think of it much these days but before the music industries deliberate separation of cultural and stylistic collaborations, many "Pop"-ular songs of the day had themes of spiritual experience and social justice set to a Beat. It wasn't until the late '70's when that brand of content again found a place in the hit parade. Much of which had it's genesis in the chugging, grinding factories of the auto industry here in the former Arsenal of Democracy, Detroit City. Drummer Dannis Hackney recalls as he worked the assembly lines, handing off hoods and floor boards in rhythm with the machine and you'd be as he put it, "Dancing inside the repetition."

As everything started to go Disco, it was Patti Smith and her '75 album HORSES that Dannis sites as being the first Punk record to get through to him. He used to walk around his neighborhood chanting, "HORSE! HORSES! HORSES!" Rocking his shoulders as he repeated the phrase. Smith who at one point spoke on how bands from the '60's like her late husband's group MC5 were taking on and trying to change a disparate World and she saw Punk as a means to re-imagine our Earthly domain and literally create a New World. Their opener tonight "Relief" is an anthem about the Power of Rock 'n' Roll. Where "Black" and "White" have found common ground beyond the institutional divisions we inherited. It's the antidote and the answer.

Not that the band doesn't dip into some Soul, as with their cover of Marvin Gaye's "God is My Friend" in tribute to their fallen sibling and their Faith. Songs from their period as ROCKFIRE FUNK EXPRESS prior to david's ecstatic inspiration for DEATH fit well with the fresh material from the recently released N.E.W. and conjure the psychic infrastructure of that New World Patti spoke of. DEATH doesn't disappoint with what brought them to attention though. Their brunt social commentary mixed with internal spiritual analysis is even more relevant today in "You're a Prisoner", "Let The World Turn" and "Politicians in My Eyes".

This was the bands first show in Ann Arbor and the crowd that gathered on this Sunday Night
at the Blind Pig crowded in close to the stage, head banging and even moshing throughout the entire set. Though the band lives in Burlington, Vermont and travels more days than not they still deeply identify with the Motor City. This night was special too in the fact that DAS opened the show. AKA Donald Angelo Schwenk who you may remember from the movie A BAND CALLED DEATH was who took the fateful box of 45's to Car City Records that he received as payment for doing the artwork for what would become the album " III " years later.

Earlier in the day the band was making pit stops around Metro Detroit and the City proper visiting friends and family when I got a call from their manager Tank Alston wanting to know if I was up for a visit from the guys. They had been by the house almost two years to the day for tacos before their excellent set at DIY FEST in Ferndale and I had already interviewed the band and afterwards accompanied them for load in when they were booked for Metallica's shot at making ORION FEST happen on Belle Isle the year before but I still had to pull myself together to look DEATH in the face one more time. With these guys there is no need to fear the reaper though.

Last time it was the Getz/Gilberto album that sparked the conversation. This time it's a vinyl copy of Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys that Bobbie immediately spies and the guys started talking about the Wrecking Crew documentary and the Brian Wilson movie Love & Mercy which led us back to Motown and the Funk Brothers. Eric Kacir of Will Sessions happened to be over and I mentioned he and the band had toured and recorded with Detroit's First Psychedelic Son, Dennis Coffey. McKinley Jackson's band The Politicians also came up when the Brothers noted they played their first gig with him way back when. We got deep into their upbringing trying to play R & B and Blues showcases as kids at places like Masonic Temple and being of the luckier "Rock" bands that didn't get their instruments and themselves thrown into the street.

Before we knew it their downtime was up and it was time to get on the road. DEATH were thankful for having a Rock 'n' Roll Embassy of sorts to hang tight in after a crazy weekend at RIOT FEST and before the show tonight. We continued our chat, laughing and hand shaking into the driveway. Tank and the guys made sure I was coming to Ann Arbor and invited Eric along as well. At the venue Tank pulled me aside and I don't want to say told me but definitely insisted I introduce the band back on stage for their encore. Beating back my nervousness especially as the crowd needed really no hyping up from the first chord struck, I summoned my best Stanley Madhatter and took to the mic once the band cleared the stage.

"All right let's keep it going for DEATH! I know the guys want to give you a little more but they just need to know that you want it! On the count of three. Say DEATH with me...
1 - 2 - 3 DEATH ! 1 - 2 - 3 DEATH ! 1 - 2 - 3 DEATH !

DETROIT -- Another excellent addition to the stable of venues in Detroit, the Marble Bar will open its doors to the public on Friday, October 2, 2015. Situated in the space of the former Eagle Bar, which closed its doors in 2010, Marble is slated to be a welcome addition to the city -- an every-person-welcome-type bar. Patrons can expect classic cocktails and a well curated beer list, or a can of beer and a shot if that's more your style.

Additionally, some of the most exciting shows in town will be featured at the redone space, a point highlighted by the already-jam-packed slate of shows upcoming in October and November.

Following the soft launch on October 2nd, the weekend of October 8-11 is expected to be memorable, with local favorites Protomartyr celebrating the release of their new album "The Agent Intellect" over two nights, featuring outstanding support from the likes of Australia's Deaf Wish and Spray Paint from Austin, Texas. The long-running doom legends of Pentagram will also make a Detroit stop on their upcoming tour, featuring classics from the band's four-decade run, as well as songs of its new album "Curious Volume."

Pentagram/Electric Citizen/Satan's Satyrs

Pentagram's Bobby Liebling says the band is "extremely excited about our upcoming tours in the US and Europe this summer and fall. We all are itching to perform some of our songs off of our new album 'Curious Volume' for you. We feel that they fit well within the other heavy numbers from the bands near 45 year history. Of course, the set is packed with the classics you know and love and ones that you may not even expect. Bring your earplugs, we are going to blow off the roof with our curious volume!"

Electric Citizen formed just over a year ago by guitarist Ross Dolan, vocalist Laura Dolan, Nick Vogelpohl (bass), and Nate Wagner (drums). Electric Citizen have had a busy year turning heads and ears on their dark and estoeric style of haunting and unhallowed '60s West Coast rock, and decidedly British-influenced psychedelia.

10/9 - Deaf Wish/Casual Sweetheart
Deaf Wish, a foursome from Australia, marked 2015 with the arrival of Pain, the first they've written since coming together again semi-permanently in Melbourne, and their appropriately titled first full-length for Sub Pop. It is a miraculously dissonant, wonderfully immediate display of Deaf With at their mightiest, alive with the same wild chemistry and sense of possibility that made their first recordings so vital.

Casual Sweetheart is a boundary-pushing blend of psychedelic punk and avant-garde garage rock.

10/10 - Spray Paint/Growwing Pains

Spray Paint are a no wave punk outfit from Austin, Texas made up of Chris Stephenson (drums/vocals), Cory Plump (guitar/vocals) and George Dishner (guitar/vocals). Some of you may already know these guys from other projects such as When Dinosaurs Ruled The Eart, Expensive Shit and Dikes of Holland. Spray Paint's buzz-sawing guitars run headlong through labryinthine tunnels of reverb, chased down by some wildly brain-bashing drums.

Strange Wilds

Strange Wilds is a musical power-trio from Olympia, Washington.

There are three members: Allen, who plays drums; Sean, who plays bass; and Steven, who sings and plays the guitar. There is also a freight train, several buzzsaws, a banshee, and some heavy, heavy Pacific doom-and-gloom up in the mix.

The group formed in 2012, when Steven met Sean while Sean's band from Boise was playing a gig in a house where Steven lived. They became friends, and several months later Steven called Sean, who had just relocated to Olympia for college, to form the band. They were called Wet, and gigged around the West Coast as a four-piece. Allen was added as a full-time member in 2014 after a line-up change, and the band changed its name to Strange Wilds to release a 4-song EP and tour immediately. Sub Pop came calling, and signed the band last fall.

Wax Idols/Them are us Too/Blood Stone

"The third album by Wax Idols is equal parts declaration of independence and meditation on togetherness, and this is, perhaps, where it strays from the band's previous work: American Tragic stands out for its profound empathy  elegiac in its approach, but connective by nature. To say that it's simply a break-up album is to sell short an idea that Hether Fortune has been playing with over the entire arc of her discography, and that is the notion that personhood is neither fixed nor consistent: We can be independent and attached, in need of discipline and desire, or even fully autonomous with a little bit of help. As Fortune points out here, even America, for all its symbolism and mythic value, also rests in tragedy." - Collect Records

TOPS

TOPS are a four-piece band from Montreal, equal parts girls and guys, delivering a raw punk take on AM studio pop. Their new record, Picture You Staring, is a lush array of timelessly crafted songs. Picture You Staring gathers strength through intimacy. Self-written, recorded, produced, and the result of 12 months holed up in Arbutus Records' Montreal warehouse. This album contains 12 impeccable examples of pop craftsmanship that will reward repeat listeners.

Jane, David and Riley have equal footing with their respective instruments and their sparring exceeds the imagination of any individual. For their new record TOPS have enlisted Madeline Glowicki to play bass. Like Jane and David, Madeline grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and went to the same elementary as Jane. A natural musician, and contributor to the Editorial magazine, the band are happy to have another prairie girl on board. LA based painter Jessica Dean Harrison created the artwork especially for the release. It is a conceptual interpretation of the record's title, continued in a large poster depicting a group scene, included with the purchase of a vinyl record.

Steve Gunn/James Elkington/Nathan Salsburg

Steve Gunn is a New York-based guitarist and songwriter. With a career spanning nearly fifteen years, Steve has produced volumes of critically acclaimed solo, duo, and ensemble recordings. His albums with GHQ and longtime collaborating drummer John Truscinski represent milestones of contemporary guitar-driven, forward music. A voracious schedule of international performances has cultivated a fervent fanbase for Gunn's music throughout the world.
Mining the catalogs of Basho, Bull, Chapman, and Sharrock, among other titans of stringed-things and record-session royalty, Steve has steadily processed these inspirations into a singular, virtuosic stream. Friendships and collaborations with Jack Rose, Tom Carter, Meg Baird, and Michael Chapman colored the disciplined evolution of the discursive, deconstructed blues sound, at once transcendent and methodical, that is now Gunn's signature. Close listening reveals the influence of Delta and Piedmont country blues, ecstatic free jazz, and psych, as well as Gnawa and Carnatic music, on the continually unfolding compositions.

Nikki Lane/Clear Plastic Masks

For her hotly anticipated sophomore album, Nashville songstress Nikki Lane teamed up with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys for a record that turns the vulnerable singer-songwriter stereotype on its ears. With songs that crucify ex-boyfriends, celebrate one-night stands (as long as she can bolt town right after) and proclaim that it's "always the right time to do the wrong thing," Lane comes across like a modern-era Wanda Jackson, albeit with more oats to sow. "My songs always paint a pretty clear picture of what's been going on in my life, so this is one moody record," she says. "There's lots of talk of misbehaving and moving on." It might be cliché to say that the mark of a true rock n' roll band is that they play from the heart, but in the case of the Clear Plastic Masks it is exceptionally true. As the band's moniker indicates, there's not much to hide with one of the most talked about groups in Nashville's burgeoning rock scene. This is the sound of heart-on-your-sleeve blue-collar soul.

together PANGEA/White Reaper

together PANGEA do rock 'n' roll as it was meant to be  raw, unpredictable, and probably dangerous, but also blazing with intelligence, emotion, and edgy experimentation. The Los Angeles-based trio made their bones as purveyors of post-millennial punk, but with their third full-length release  and Harvest Records debut  BADILLAC, they pay their debt to the supersonic 90s rock that first inspired them. The band has not sacrificed a spurt of precious energy, instead integrating nuance and dynamic momentum to songs like "No Way Out" and the undeniably badass title track.

All Them Witches/New Madrid

In each buildup and breakdown, every riff and groove of Nashville band All Them Witches, there is a story. The rockers' narratives are often unspoken, sourcing musical touchstones from across the States, offering an almost cinematic experience wrapped up in their propulsive rhythms and subtly funky anthems. "As a band we pull from every moment that we experience," says vocalist/bassist Charles Michael Parks, Jr., "our influence is not just music, it's our everyday life."

From the southern wilds of Athens, GA comes young four-piece, New Madrid. Their music is a dynamic mixture of underwater-psych-rock that engages the listener in fully textured aural landscapes, both on record and live. Their acclaimed 2012 independent debut, Yardboat - engineered by David Barbe (Deerhunter, Drive-By Truckers) at Chase Park Transduction- displayed the band's inherent talents and introduces a distinctive sound budding with sonic energy.

Diet Cig is a pop rock band from New Paltz, NY, fronted by Alex Luciano with Noah Bowman of Earl Boykins (Forged Artifacts) on drums. The five charming songs on the debut Over Easy EP, written by Alex in the comforts of her bedroom, capture the innocence of adolescence and infatuation. Over Easy was recorded on Halloween 2014 with Christopher Daly at Salvation Recording Co in New Paltz, NY (Porches, Quarterbacks, Earl Boykins) and mastered by Jamal Ruhe at West West Side Music. Over Easy was released digitally and on cassette in February 2015 with the support of Father/Daughter Records.

9/29 -- The Intelligence/Salad Boys @ UFO Factory

Around since 1999, The Intelligence has to date released seven singles, five split singles, two EPs, seven albums and have made eight compilation appearances. They join the ranks of hyper-prolific artists like Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall in the impossible-to-stay-on-top-of department. That said, like the aforementioned artists, with each release The Intelligence continues to evolve, grow artistically and top themselves. And, yes, you do need to keep up with all the releases.

Salad Boys came together at the end of 2012 with members from other illustrious Christchurch groups T54, Bang! Bang! Eche! and the Dance Asthmatics. Recorded, the Salad Boys are deceivingly charming, presenting a careful but curious balance of well-informed pop melodies, hypnotizing rhythms and heady instrumentation.

9/30 -- Lee Baines III & the Glory Fires/Pujol/Craig Brown Band/Left & Right @ UFO Factory

What awaits you when the needle drops on Dereconstructed, the new album by Lee Bains lll & the Glory Fires? Nothing less than pure fucking heaven, that's what. Consider the record's opener, "The Company Man." It revs up with a riff sleazy enough to clog Rod Stewart's stomach pump as an incantation that only a Yellowhammer can truly understand is bellowed and then screamed. Before you know it, the joint is hotter than a Birmingham soaking pit while you, the listener, are reminded, lest you forget, don't ever trust the company man. No shit.

10/2 -- Gardens & Villa/American Wrestlers @ UFO Factory

Gardens & Villa is the project of five college friends from Santa Barbara, formed following the collapse of a noisier post-punk band and a hitch-hiking journey up the west coast. Members Chris Lynch, Adam Rasmussen, Levi Hayden, Shane McKillop began playing in earnest as Gardens & Villa in 2008. The name is pulled from the location of their house on Villa Street, and the property's lovely garden to which they tend.

The move to Missouri saw American Wrestlers take form, recording in a tiny, remote house, on a Tascam 8-track and "the cheapest pawn shop instruments [he] could afford". 'I Can Do No Wrong' sees shimmery guitar-work draw upon that feeling of a Midwestern summer's stifling heat. Driven along by a crackling beat, it's a stripped back approach to garage-rock that focuses on melody and avoids the all-too-common desire to drench everything in layer-upon-layer of fuzz.

10/10 -- S (Jen Ghetto) @ UFO Factory

S is former Carissa's Wierd member, Jenn Ghetto's, radically empathetic rock band. Though S started as a four-track bedroom project, the group's 2014 full-length album 'Cool Choices', produced by Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla and released on Hardly Art Records, is a fully formed, deeply vulnerable pop record. It preserves Ghetto's artfully confessional lyrics while exploring catharsis through intricate guitar hooks, tender piano ballads, and heart-soaring electronic hits. These are sad songs you can sing along to.

10/12 -- Lower/Makthaverskan @ PJ's Lager House (21+)

Lower make intense music. Seek Warmer Climes, the Copenhagen quartet's debut album, sparkles with the harmonic dissonance and high-strung urgency of their underground rock forebears. But Lower  Adrian Toubro (vocals), Simon Formann (guitar), Kristian Emdal (bass) and Anton Rothstein (drums)  also channel the romance and drama of great singer-songwriters, from late-period Scott Walker to Bryan Ferry. The result is a hugely ambitious and affecting rock album that enters deeply personal and unusual sonic and topical spaces.

Makthaverskan layer aspects of noise, jangle and dream pop on a foundation of rambling, garage-punk energy. Distorted, uptempo riffs ebb and flow with laid back, atmospheric post-punk throughout the tracks that make up the band's sophomore LP II. Sonic bursts of anthemic pop are accentuated and brought to life by front-woman Maja Milner's sharp and soaring delivery, cutting through layers of reverb to air out her dirty laundry. The band's name, while not an actual Swedish word, derives its meaning from "Makthavaren" meaning "the man in the position of power". Makthaverskan, then, is the feminine conjugation of this concept meaning in its definite form "the female with the power"  a sentiment that seems to double back and truly power the music.

10/12 -- Titus Andronicus/Spider Bags/Baked @ UFO Factory

The Most Lamentable Tragedy [hereafter TMLT] is the fourth studio album by Titus Andronicus [hereafter +@] and the band's debut for Merge Records. A rock opera in five acts, it will see release on the 28th of July 2015 as a digital download, double CD, and triple vinyl LP. "[In July 2005] I turned 20 years oldI started the band and closed the door on my teenage years," says singer/songwriter Patrick Stickles, "and on July 28th this year, I'm turning 30. Putting out this record is my way of closing the door on my twentiessharing what I have learned, sorrowing what I learned too late."

10/20 -- J Fernandez/Turn To Crime/James Cooper @ UFO Factory

"The appeal of J. Fernandez and his music is summed up right there in the name - he's a bit mysterious. It isn't that he's hiding anything, he's only just revealing what he wants to, keeping the remainder close to his chest. Likewise, there's a certain, undeniable feeling associated with his songwriting, but describing it is easier said than done. That's because there are plenty of familiar touchstones and influences deep in the songs; intricately woven, Marquee Moon guitars, an affectless, Kraftwerk-ian singing style, psychedelic dissonance and melodic structures not entirely unlike The United States of America, and a modern warmth like Chris Cohen's work with The Curtains and Deerhoof.

10/25 -- Ex-Cult/Mexican Knives/Brothels @ Painted Lady (21+)

On the tail of their excellent breakout 2nd LP "Midnight Passenger" on Goner Records, we have a brand new batch of bruisers from Ex-Cult, the Memphis-based punk cyclone that no doubt has laid waste to a town near you recently. Chris Shaw lends a sneering, spitting toughness to the proceedings while the band flays riffs in loose, hairy mosh inducing menace behind him, touching on post-punk, psych sprawl, and early 80s hardcore while remaining beholden to none. - Matt Jones, Castle Face Records

10/28 -- Here We Go Magic/Big Thief @ UFO Factory

Here We Go Magic will release their new album, Be Small, on October 16 via Secretly Canadian. Eno/Cale's Wrong Way Up and Roberty Wyatt's Shleep were touchstones for the LP, according to main man Luke Temple who adds that most of the songs are "overtly major and optimistic." That's certainly the case with the instantly catchy "Falling," which sets a rush of acoustic guitars over a skittering beat and joyous chorus. This is my idea of a summer single, and you can definitely hear the Wrong Way Up influence here. The video, made by director Sam Kuhn, is a lot of fun too

Listening to Big Thief is like the feeling of looking at a dog and suddenly marveling that it is like you but very not like you; when you are accustomed to looking at a dog and thinking 'dog', watching or listening to Big Thief is like forgetting the word 'dog' and looking at that naked animal and getting much closer to it and how different it is to you.

11/7 -- Small Black/Painted Palms @ UFO Factory

Gracing the cover of Brooklyn band Small Black's new record, a mysterious woman walks alone on the dunes at dusk, amid pockmarked sand. She's the subject of a found photo, one of many rescued with the warmth of a blow dryer and a fireplace, by singer Josh Hayden Kolenik after Hurricane Sandy flooded his family's Long Island home. The faded image offers clues and invites viewers to construct their own narrative, one that escapes even the picture's taker, Kolenik's father.

To put it simply, Best Blues is an album about loss. The specific loss of precious people in our lives, but also the loss of memories and the difficult

WSG: Painted Palms

11/10 -- NOBUNNY @ UFO Factory

Always clad in a fuzzy (and mildly psychotic-looking) rabbit mask and often wearing little else, NOBUNNY is a one-man pop-punk onslaught whose simple, infectiously hooky tunes and lusty outlook have earned comparisons to the Ramones,Hasil Adkins, and the Cramps, and whose untamed (and sometimes bottomless) stage shows have led some to call him a cuddly version of G.G. Allin. NOBUNNY is the alter ego of Justin Champlin, who was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, and relocated to San Francisco, California.Champlin first made a name for himself as the drummer with garage punks the Okmoniks and later co-founded the Sneaky Pinks, a two-man punk-pop party machine.

11/14 -- Diarrhea Planet/Music Band @ UFO Factory

Diarrhea Planet is a six-piece rock and roll band from Nashville, TN. Their sound has often been described as The Ramones holding Van Halen hostage with an arsenal of fireworks and explosives. Diarrhea Planet's four guitarists provide enough riffs to make Jack Black squeal like a schoolgirl, while lead singer Hodan delivers enough hooks to straighten the curl out of Justin Timberlake's hair. In a world of unintelligible lo-fi recording, reverb drenched vocals, and tuneless guitars, Diarrhea Planet aims to put the backbone back into rock and roll.

Music Band seeped out of a broken sewage line in an upstate New York dormitory, and somehow it's Nashville's problem now??? Brothers Harry (guitar), Duncan (bass) and Lee (drums) have been both room- and bandmates for over three years, and a single experience of seeing them on stage makes it obvious that they just can't get rid of each other.

Frankie Cosmos

Frankie Cosmos is a 4-piece band consisting of Greta Kline (vocals, guitar), Aaron Maine (drums), David Maine (bass), and Gabrielle Smith (keyboard, vocals). Their performances vary from slow sad ballads to goofy rock'n'roll love songs. They are based out of New York City (where Greta and Gabby grew up) and Pleasantville (where the Maine brothers grew up). The four members are each influenced by a wide variety of music, and all come from distinct music backgrounds.
