Born in Queens and raised on Long Island, Dave Attell got into stand-up comedy in the late eighties after graduating from New York University with a degree in Film and Television. Attell used this prestigious degree to land amazing jobs in the food service industry - as a waiter. At night he would hit the "open mic" circuit in Manhattan. After many years, Attell worked his way up through the club scene onto the road, touring across America as a national headliner and developing a huge following among fans and the industry alike.

Dave Attell is currently the creator and host of “Dave’s Old Porn” on Showtime. He was named one of the “25 Funniest People in America” by Entertainment Weekly Magazine. His caustic wit, rapid-fire delivery and his choice of material that can best be described as "very adult" has earned him the reputation as a "comic's comic." But if you ask Attell, he’d say, "I’m just trying to get some laughs and sell some drinks." In 2001, Attell used this love of booze and laughter to create and host the hit series, "Insomniac with Dave Attell" for Comedy Central. A travelogue show in which Attell goes from city to city looking for late-night fun, The New York Times called the show, "a doubly rare beast, a comedy without rancor and a travel show about the virtues of the American underdog." To Attell, the Insomniac show is more of a cross between "Girls Gone Wild” and “Cops”. After four seasons of “Insomniac,” Attell taped several hour-long “Insomniac” specials overseas in Japan, Germany, England and Brazil.

Once back in the states, he headed out on a thirty-five city theatre tour ending in Vegas, where he hosted a two-hour special for Comedy Central featuring Sean Rouse, Greg Geraldo and Dane Cook, some of the biggest comics in the country. Dave Attell has made numerous appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with Conan O'Brien,” “The Howard Stern Show,” “Last Call with Carson Daly” and “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”. He also appeared in Chris Rock’s cult film "Pootie Tang”. Other television credits include FOX's "Arrested Development," NBC's "Ed," HBO, Comedy Central’s "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn" and his own half-hour stand-up special "Comedy Central Presents Dave Attell”. When not on the road, Attell makes regular appearances at the Comedy Cellar in New York City.

DAVE ATTELL INTERVIEW
Comedy Giant talks to MCB's Moneypenny
Hot off the press...

----------------- Original Message -----------------
From: Dave Attell
To: Moneypenny
Date: Mar 3 2009 12:22 PM
Subject: Couple questions for MCB

"HERE'S MY ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS.... "

MCB: You have three days here in the Detroit area. Any plans? Anything that you know or love about the Motor City that you can share?

ATTELL: As for plans...I guess that depends on the weather its fucking cold in NYC so I can only Imagine the temperature in D-Town. I do want to ride the monorail that goes down town...Does that make me gay??????
MCB: The Gong Show ran for only 8 episodes...Can you tell us what happened to derail its revival?

ATTELL: Actually we did 6 episodes but it felt like 8...I have not heard anything from Comedy Central but I dont think its coming back...I guess we will have to settle for the show "America's Got Talent"

MCB: What was one of the most memorable moments from your experiences doing Insomniac, running around town for drinks and debauchery?
ATTELL: There were alot of cool times on that show, its all a blur thanks to my friend yaeger...But I guess the Penis Parade in Japan was a real trip...Seeing a whole town walk around with a giant Penis was pretty wild...And erotic.

MCB: You've traveled extensively throughout the country. What was THEE best place to get drunk?
ATTELL: I get this question alot..I always say..Vegas is the best drinking town, cause they have no last call, but any place where you dont have to drink and drive will do..

MCB: Can you recite your favorite line (or one that you can't seem to get out of your head) from the voice overs you did for the video game Outlaw Golf 2?
ATTELL: WOW, GOOD ONE !!! favorite line I guess... "Im the master chief" wait thats HALO...Shit!!! Next question..

MCB: Tell us about your favorite heckler moment?
ATTELL: FAVORITE HECKLER MOMENT.....Is there such a thing. You call it heckling I call it tough love...either way, its all good till they start wiping bottles at yah...

MCB: What is your best memory from working the USO circuit?
ATTELL: Speaking of the USO..I am doing a benefit with RON WHITE in Washington DC...The sunday after DETROIT..Tell your friends...

MCB: Who is your current favorite porn star and why?
ATTELL: MY FAVORITE PORN STAR....thats another great question...thats like asking a fat man what his favorite cookie is...They're all good.

MCB: What's next for you?
ATTELL: MY PLANS...Like everyone else I am trying to keep doing what I do and paying my bills...I hope to put out an new CD sometime this year.., blah blah Im boring...
SORRY MISS MONEYPENNY THATS ALL I GOT
I HAVE TO ROLL..
SEE YAH AT THE SHOW..I HOPE

...armed with only a beverage and a microphone.
The Dave Attell show last night was awesome.
Everyone at the Comedy Castle was really cool
and Mark Ridley himself took care of us.
The place was packed on a Thursday night,
I can only imagine how intense tonight and tomorrow will be.
Dave gave everyone their money's worth and then some,
even hanging out after the show to meet fans.
He was uber-cool to us for coming out and bought us drinks
to personally thank us and the MCB for spreading the word
(even though you easily tell by the turnout that he didn't need help,
he was very gracious and appreciative anyway).
Everyone left the club with teary eyes and split sides.
It was good for the soul.

Dave Attell has two shows tonight and two more tomorrow.
Anyone who doesn't get down to Ridley's Comedy Castle
to see him is REALLY missing out!
They seated us way in the back, so I had to be sneaky
about getting shots without being an asshole to the crowd.
(this is how MCB rolls all the time - non invasive)
But I used the BIG lens and managed to get a few good ones.
There aren't many shots to get of one man with a mic anyway,
so I think it the shots are fine
His performance was hilarious and he had us wait after the show
so he could buy us drinks and talk with us.
It was pretty fucking sweet, I must admit and I am no star-gazer

Dave Attell is the cat's pajamas.

And now, back to my regularly scheduled buzzkill!
Lunch hour is over...back to the helljob.

Happy Friday!!!

Go get you some funny in ya at Ridley's! "

Cheers,
Moneypenny

"DAVE ATTELL should stay in Detroit for another week or so"
