HATCH OPEN HOUSE: SUNDAY OCTOBER 12TH 5pm

"Dear artist or art lover,

As you probably know, Hatch is up to quite a lot.

A short time ago, Hatch officially became the new owners of Hamtramck's
former police station. We purchased it and it is ours!

The question is, what now?

I can answer what I would like to do first-- grow our membership.
Right now we have around 50 members from a wide variety of visual,
literary and performing arts. That is a great number considering we
are only two and a half years old. However, I would like to see that
number surpass 100. Why? The more people that are involved, the more
Hatch can do, the more we can make use of this new building, and,
quite frankly, the more money we have to develop the building the way
we want.

I invite you to come to our next meeting and see what Hatch is all
about. The meeting will be in the building at 3456 Evaline in
Hamtramck at 5:00pm on Sunday, October 12th and you are invited
!

It is located just south of City Hall and one block west of Conant between
Caniff and Holbrook (note that Evaline is a one way street heading
east). If you have been thinking about coming but haven't been sure,
this is the meeting to finally do.

At this meeting, we will have an open forum discussion of what our
members, new and old, would like Hatch to do. We have some plans with
the space, including:

gallery, gift shop, and workspace (darkroom, kiln, and more) on the
first floor

artist studios on the second floor

a green roof perfect for relaxing and seeing the view

sustainable technology implemented whenever possible

That is the general idea. What we specifically do with the building
will be up to membership, including activities, fund-raising
possibilities, art projects, uses of the building, outreach,
workshops and more.

For many of you, this will also be your first opportunity to see the
building. Come early and tour the facility! The building will be open
starting at 4:00. I am hoping that you will want to become a member--
it is a great way to meet other artists, sell your artwork, and
create opportunities that only a network of artists can pull off.

Along with your ideas, please bring a chair if you can. Hatch has
some, but not enough. Also note that we do not have running water, so
the bathrooms do not yet work. We also have no heat, but we do have
electricity. Dress warmly and don't worry about bringing lights.

I look forward to meeting you at what I hope will be a historic,
energetic, and optimistic outpouring of artistic creativity!
