You may know of Nivek Ogre from his work with unhinged industrial progenitors Skinny Puppy, you’re in for quite the surprise. Under his solo semi-pseudonym, ohGr, the SP frontman pulls from the feverish factory noises of his seminal work in the 80s, but does something totally surprising with those alloy synths and pounding drums you rock history students will expect.
While still every bit as sinister as the chemical-burnt noise rock of the early Puppy, Ogre seems to be having some diabolical fun on his latest release, Devils In My Details, a buoyant, at times even joyous, slab of transcendent electro-skuzz, scuffed up eeriness and sci-fi pysch(o)-industrial.
Following on the heels of 2003’s SunnyPsyOp, Details is due on November 4th and was recorded in a marathon Pro Tools session with longtime creative foil Mark Walk, emerging as a single musical statement, before being chopped into 11 bite-sized morsels.
