Our friday drink recipe from Bar Brady would usually drop tomorrow but we are out of town for the holiday so are getting it today! - Cheers!
Folks, the Good Friday is upon us.
Here’s a festive one for the holiday morn.
Cranberry Mimosa
3 bottles chilled brutt champagne or sparkling wine (2 is never enough)
Large bottle of cranberry juice
(if straight cranberry juice is too bitter for you, try cran-raspberry)
Whole cranberries or vanilla beans
1. Fill your glasses with one part chilled cranberry juice
2. Add two parts chilled brutt champagne
3. Garnish with a few whole cranberries or a vanilla bean.
4. Float a yellow marshmallow Peep on top.
5. No, on second though, hold off on the Peeps. Just tried it, not good!
Tip: the key to a great mimosa is using good tasty juice. So don’t skimp here.
The fresher the better. If you have doubts, maybe buy a few different types, different sweetness levels. What looks in the bottle may not delight the taste buds when mixed with our bubbly buddy.

The Buck Brothers w/Apartment 4
Wednesday, March 19 2008
Lager House
1254 Michigan Ave
Corktown Detroit
Fresh off a tour of "US television" as they so cutely put it on their website, The Buck Brothers are headed this way in a rented Winnebago. Hailing from across the big pond (the Atlantic, that is), the group formed in January 2005 after meeting at a Buddhist disco in suburban London and has made their name across the western (and post-Soviet) world with late '70s-esque tunes. They've shared the stage with such drug-addled names as The Buzzcocks and Babyshambles. Earlier this month, the Buck brothers set a world record for the "highest number of gigs performed in a 12 hour period." Have you ever seen a more Brit-looking trio?
Detroit's own Apartment 4 will knock your socks off with an entirely new genre?"bubble grunge." The only bubble grunge band around with a violinist!
MOTORCITYBLOG's Amy Palomar will be onsite to interview both bands and catch some video footage of the shows....

Carl Oxley III spent the month of January, 2008, as an Artist in Residence at 555 Gallery During this time, He completed his largest body of work to date. These new Paintings range insize from 3 feet by 4 feet, to 4 feet by 8 feet.Having been previously confined in his home studio, He was able to take his bold and bright cast of characters to a whole new level.
Carl will also be exhibiting some of most his recentsmaller works, which deal with ancient designs and symbols, and the way that such things become new again.
Oxley has recently been drawing inspiration from Pre-Inca, Southwest American Indian, Northwest American Indian, and Mexican designs and primitive characters, and Asian language characters. He then layers his language of figures and characters into the mix.
It becomes hard to tell what is old, and what is new.

"The Crofoot is proud to present THE SLITS live in concert at the Eagle Theater. As Mark Perry says: "They (The Slits) were loud brash bold and unrepentant.. they never compromised their image or stance...they must have inspired loads of women to pick up a guitar and form a band....they were pure punk driven by female power...they shocked a lot of people, both on and of stage. They were dangerous, and their very presence threatened those that considered rock to be a male-only pursuit." Flash-forward to 2008 and Slits are back in action, with Ari Up and bassist Tessa and friends continuing to create music in their jungly dubby punk style. With SHELL SHAG and more."
The Detroit Blues Society had one of the monthly shindigs over at Memphis Smoke on Saturday night and we ended up walking in on the end of the set and had chance to talk to a few of the members about the DBS and some of the future events on the horizon.

Billy Alton & the Streamliners, Kentucky Chrome and Rockabilly Strangers
It's a psychobilly freakout!
Billy Alton & the Streamliners headline with out-of-this-world vocals. Fold your cigarettes into your sleeve, pomade the hair and swing-rock the night away. Alton, formerly of the Starlight Drifters, also leads Kentucky Chrome, a five-piece pedal to the metal rockabilly outfit.
Kentucky Chrome specializes in songs of booze, heartache, hot-rods and the occasional redemption of a lost soul?and we would expect nothing less!
Rockabilly Strangers are a brand new band that has only one mission: rock out the best rockabilly music from the past, present, and future. Dig it!

The Zistafones, the Cut Loose and Philo-San!
Rock'n'roll the way it shoulder be on March 8th!
If you enjoy a retro sound with beautiful harmonies, unconventional guitar leads, an all-over-the-place rhythm section, and super high energy, you are bound to fall in love.
The Cut Loose are straight outta the garage; Detroit sound through and through.
Phil-San are a poppy combination of swing, reggae, rockabilly and surf, Philo-san (fye-low sahn) has created a unique sound that is redefining "Detroit Rock." Hailing from suburban Detroit, this distinctive trio combines catchy melodies, quirky guitar licks, funky bass lines, and versatile drumming to form a retro-rock sound that is much bigger than the sum of its parts.
We have donated 5 sets of tickets for the Exposure Detroit show tonight at the Bean and Leaf Cafe in Royal Oak for auction or raffle to help this great group of 700+ members continue to puton shows and display the many talented photographers here in the motorcity!
