The Elizabeth Theater Presents The Search for Ron Mims
The Elizabeth Theater (located above the Park Bar and Bucharest Grill in Downtown Detroit) will be hosting The Search for Ron Mims
written and performed by local comedian, writer and Wayne State Theatre alum, Mike Targus on October 19 & 20, 2012.
The Search for Ron Mims takes place primarily in Detroit and tells the journey of one young mans' journey through life,
dealing with family and ultimately finding Ron Mims through an accidental invitation.
And just as warning, there may be a few shots of whiskey along his way.
Mike Targus gradutated from Wayne State University in 2006 with a BFA in acting. While pursuing his acting degree, Mike studied with Upright Citizens Birgrade in New York City, Improv Olympic in Chicago and Second City in Detroit. After graduating he helped Jerry Belanger to found and open the Park Bar. He since then moved to Chicago, Illinois and frequently performs there. He also currently owns his own production company, Hot Snow Productions.
Mike recently moved home to Detroit to film a pilot of his original sitcom series Mackinac Black. The sitcom tells the story behind two bar owners, George and Rick through the eyes of Brian a bar tender. Mackinac Black is a hilarious look at life in the bar industry and how even though the dysfunctional characters in the story look like they can't stand each other at the end of the day their love for each other is obvious. Mackinac Black started shooting October 1 and the final project should be completed by January 2013.
The Park Bar and The Elizabeth Theater were originally an abandoned storefront in the city of Detroit and purchased in 2004 by then recent Wayne State University Theatre alum Jerry Belanger. He and his crew (including The Search for Ron Sims writer and performer, Mike Targus) spent the next two years renovating 2040 Park Avenue and the neighboring 1930s era Cliff Bells at 2030 Park Ave. The Park Bar (which is also home to the Bucharest Grill) opened its doors in December of 2006. Since then the Park Bar has become home for visiting Tiger Fans, Lions Fans, Downtown Locals, Fillmore Theatre patrons, Fox Theatre patrons and local musicians who have either played in the upstairs or been to a show in the constantly developing upstairs venue.
On December 2, 2011, five years after the Park Bar opened, Jerry Belanger's vision of a flexible performance venue, which was originally conceived while he was a Theatre student on the foot steps of Old Main on Wayne State University's campus located near-by, opened its first theatre production, The Tempest (nominated for Best of the Bard and Best Costume design at the 2012 Wilde Awards and Best Trio in The Rouge's Gallery).
In addition to being the home for the theatre company the theatre is also be available to rent for private events as well as continue to host Detroit's local music, dance and other performing arts events.
