Film: Regional Roots: The Birth and Evolution of Detroit and its People

+ panel discussion



The documentary Regional Roots focuses on the 300-year history of metro Detroit ’s cultural and ethnic communities, including European Americans, African Americans, Arab Americans and Asian Americans, illustrating how immigrants have shaped the region. Produced/directed by Carrie LeZotte. Screening followed by a panel discussion including Tamara Sochacka of the Hamtramck Public Library; Ismael Duran of Center of Music and Performing Arts Southwest (COMPAS); Juan Alvarez, curator of exhibits at the Michigan State University Museum; and Sangeetha Gopalakrishnan, Foreign Language Technology Center Director at Wayne State University. The panelists are all featured in the current AANM immigration exhibition Connecting Communities. Presented in partnership with the Detroit Orientation Institute of Wayne State University.

The Arab American National Museum is located at 13624 Michigan Ave. just west of Schaefer, in Dearborn . Parking is free in the municipal lot behind the Museum. Further information available at www.arabamericanmuseum.org
