OPENING TONIGHT: 100% locally made film "Detroit Unleaded" at Emagine Novi

Even if you're someone like me, and phrases like "slice of life" and "romantic comedy" make you break out in hives, this is a genuinely funny, touching, and entertaining movie. Sweet without being manipulative, local without being exclusionary, I had the pleasure of seeing the premiere with a full-house of friends and supporters at the glorious DFT, and have been recommending it to my friends — inside of Detroit and out — ever since. Take a date, or take the family, but go see it while you have the chance.

DETROIT UNLEADED the movie
STARTS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6th at
After sold out shows at Detroit Film Theatre with almost 4,000 Detroiters in attendance plus an extended run in New York, Detroit Unleaded returns to the Metro-Detroit area this Friday, December 6th at Emagine Theater in Novi.

"Beautifully etched" - New York Times

Detroit Unleaded is a modern take on Romeo and Juliet that tells the story of Sami (EJ Assi), who reluctantly takes over his family's gas station business after his father is murdered in a robbery. It's not a life that Sami ever wanted, nor did his late father who always encouraged his son to go to college.

"Fun and enlightening" - The Detroit News

The gas station that Sami manages with his cousin Mike (Breaking Bad's Mike Batayeh) is more than just a pit stop, but a place where an infinite stream of spirited and often hilarious people flow through. When a gorgeous girl named Najlah (Nada Shouhayib) comes to deliver cheap long-distance phone cards, Sami quickly falls for her. Afraid her overprotective brother will disapprove, Najlah begins a romance with Sami under the promise of secrecy.

"90 minutes of pure entertainment" - National Post

100% made and cast in Detroit, Detroit Unleaded is the debut feature of Director Rola Nashef and stars first-time feature actors EJ Assi and Nada Shouhayib, along with Actor & Comedian Mike Batayeh (Breaking Bad), Mary Assel, Steven Soros, and Lebanese film and television star Akram El-Ahmar, along with a cast of Detroit-based characters.

"Comedic brillance" - indieWIRE
