Felix da Housecat is back with a new single, “We All Wanna Be Prince.”
The track, which premiered on AOL’s Spinner, can be streamed here and will be available digitally everywhere on July 28th.
“I wrote this song because even 25 years later We All Wanna Be Prince,” Felix explains. “Prince is one of the most brilliant, talented, and influential musicians of all time and without him many contemporary musicians would be nowhere.”
Ushering out the single in grand style, Felix will release the original version along with a bevy of remixes by Paper Faces (AKA The Killers/Madonna/Seal super-producer Stuart Price), Joachim Garraud, Danny Howells, Grey Ghost & Deth Hertz, and Port-Royal. Fans that can’t wait until July 28th can get a taste of over at Beatport.
It’s been eight years since Felix Da Housecat broke out of the house music underground with his electro-pop smash, Kittenz and Thee Glitz (2001), joining the ranks of other soon-to-be-legendary electro-rock pioneers such as Peaches, Fischerspooner and Miss Kittin and the Hacker to define a new style of music and ignite a mass movement of dance-rockers and rocked-out DJs. Perhaps it’s no accident that all of these artists are back with new albums this year, including our man Felix, who returns with the release of his electronic opus He Was King.

Check out Heather Greene and drink up!
“Why Don’t You Say Yes”
As one of the world’s only female Scotch whisky experts, Heather Greene has quite a life. Like most talented and aspiring artists, Heather was already building her career as a singer/songwriter of international acclaim when she discovered her passion for what has since become her “day job”. After selling out venues throughout the U.S. and Europe and receiving exposure on major radio stations worldwide, Heather moved to Scotland to explore her heritage and work on her music.
It was there that Heather discovered a zeal for whisky.
Noticing the similarities between these two forms of craftsmanship, she threw herself into the world of Scotch, and her voyage of discovery led her to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society in Edinburgh, where, as the first American woman to be invited to serve on the tasting panel, she became a huge fan of the William Grant portfolio, eventually joining the company as a U.S. Glenfiddich Ambassador. It was also while in Scotland conceiving her second album, Sweet Otherwise, that an elderly man offered her a century-old piano -- a relic that has became a constant companion and inspiration.
Recorded when she returned to New York in 2008, Sweet Otherwise evokes lush, pastoral landscapes as potently as it captures the urban pulse of a vibrant city, weaving a kaleidoscopic array of musical elements – from classic 1960s-era folk to twangy country to textural electronica to upbeat, hooky 80s pop – into a distinctive sound. Drummer and longtime musical companion Mino Gori appears on several tracks. Guitarists Bernie Reilly and Brad Craig and keyboardist and producer Dennis Martin, also make cameos.
Katrina -- it’s a name freighted with some incredibly heavy history. The 2005 hurricane that decimated one of America’s proudest cities was the largest natural disaster in the history of the United States. And New Orleans hasn’t been the same since. Hoping to do their part in the ongoing process to revitalize the city, Californian dancefloor-pleasers STS9 have brought together a star-studded list of artists, producers, and DJs for a Katrina benefit record. All proceeds from the release will go to the New Orleans Make It Right foundation, founded by superstar philanthropist Brad Pitt after the catastrophe.
Featuring remixes from Telepath, Count Bass D, Richard Devine, Prefuse 73 and a host of others, the album is a reworking of STS9’s latest release, a collection of difficult to categorize but easy to digest beat-a-thons called Peaceblaster. Available on iTunes and via the band’s own 1320 records website, the album re-contextualizes the record’s penchant for melding the sweaty, strobe light rhythms of dance music with rock music’s wild energy. Taking their work with The Make It Right a step further, the foundation is the one and only beneficiary of all STS9’s charity efforts in 2009 – through the remix album’s proceeds, a $1 donation on every concert ticket the band sells this year, and more initiatives yet to be announced.
