Built To Spill is one of the most diverse and influential indie rock bands of the 1990’s. Their sound can be sweeping and atmospheric, and at the same time natural. They have perfected the art of creating haunting and beautiful songs that are not meant to be catchy, but are still somehow addictive. Built To Spill was formed in 1992 by Doug Martsch. His intention was to procure a rotating cast of musicians to record albums and tour. He created perfectly intertwined guitar solos that captivated live audiences and crafted Built To Spill into an exciting live act.
Butthole Surfers are best known for their chaotic and disturbing live shows, a sound that blends together elements of punk rock, heavy metal, electronica, noise rock, and psychedelic sound. For years, radio found their band name unspeakable and the press deemed it unprintable. The early dawning of their career began in 1977, when future front man Gibby Haynes met guitarist Paul Leary while attending college in San Antonia. Four years later, Haynes and Leary formed the Ashtray Baby Heads, which was later dubbed Nine Foot Worm Makes Home Food. They became Butthole Surfers only after a radio announcer mistakenly took the title of an early song to be the group’s name. After a number of bassists and drummers, the Surfers’ lineup fell into place in 1983 with the addition of drummers King Coffey and Theresa Nervosa. In 1986 bass player Jeff Pinkus was also added to the wild musical style of the Butthole Surfers.
