Here’s a rundown of
Broadway In Detroit's 2013-2014 Subscriber Series:
Miss Saigon
(September 24, 2013- October 6, 2013): Miss Saigon is a Boubil and
Schonberg musical based on Puccini’s opera “Madame Butterfly,” set during the
Vietnam War.
Elf: The Musical (December 3, 2013 – December 15): ELF is the hilarious
tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of
gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually
human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face
the truth.
War Horse (December 17, 2013 - January 05, 2014) A heart-warming tale of
loyalty and friendship, and winner of FIVE 2011 Tony Awards®, WAR HORSE tells
the story of young Albert and his beloved horse, Joey. This powerfully moving
and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of
phenomenal inventiveness that is currently playing to packed houses in London
and around the world.
The Music Of Andrew
Lloyd Webber (February 8, 2014 – March 2, 2014) Since bursting onto the
Broadway scene some thirty years ago, Tony, Grammy and Academy Award-winning
composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has brought to the stage a host of musical
blockbusters that have taken the theatre world by storm. Included in The Music
of Andrew Lloyd Webber are the great songs and musicals excerpts from The
Phantom of the Opera, CATS, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Starlight Express,
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sunset Boulevard, and, for the
first time in the U.S., Love Never Dies.
We Will Rock You (April
01, 2014 - April 13, 2014) In a future age of mindless manufactured music,
where everyone dresses the same, thinks the same, is the same, hope of breaking
free rests with an unlikely resistance - an alliance of rebel Bohemians deep
below Planet Mall, waiting for a hero to bring the power of Rock back to the people.
WE WILL ROCK YOU features the greatest hits of the legendary British rock
group, Queen. Now in its 11th year in London and seen by a staggering 15
million people worldwide, this hilarious, multi-award-winning and
record-breaking phenomenon is written by celebrated British comedian Ben Elton
and boasts a fantastic score of killer Queen tunes that you just can't resist
singing along to, such as Another One Bites The Dust, Crazy Little Thing Called
Love, We Are The Champions, Bohemian Rhapsody and, of course, We Will Rock You.
Sister Act (April
22, 2014 – May 4, 2014) SISTER ACT tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier,
a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime
and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look—a convent!
Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters
find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.
They actually had the man-powered War Horse at the media event that i attended and the lifelike characteristics and noises of the horse and actors seem to have sold the show to the audience. The show looks unbelievable!
