MEXICAN SUMMER VINYL CLUB

There is nothing better than finding some obscure old school album
Except for the rise of NEW WAX in today's music world
I personally own nearly 1000 pieces - some for the music but many because of the art or freebies that came on the inside of the album
In the last 3 years or so there has been a return to the primitive
with vinyl clubs such as Mexican Summer
check them out and join if you can
Makes a great Christmas Gift for that best friend of yours....

DECEMBER 2008
Marissa Nadler - Ballads of Living and Dying (reissued LP with bonus 7”)
We've been huge fans of Marissa Nadler for a long time (obviously) and when the opportunity presented itself to put out her first album on vinyl for the first time, we couldn't pass it up.
It contains some of her most beautiful and haunting tracks including "Mayflower May" and the Poe inspired/written "Anabelle Lee."
The album comes out a few months before her new album Little Hells is released.

Tallest Man On Earth - Shallow Grave (LP with bonus 7”)
Whether it's The Tallest Man on Earth's lo-fi tape recording technique or penetrating vocal stylings, Shallow Grave authentically represents a tradition of Americana folk rock that was popularized during the 50s and 60s. "The Tallest Man on Earth, like Dylan before him, grounds his songs in Son House- and Blind Willie McTell-inspired guitar work, lofting tempestuous vocals overhead and garnishing liberally with ‘babes and "honey's".

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Can't Hear My Eyes b/w Evolution's A Lie (7”)
What better way to ring in the holidays than with two new cuts from Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti. This new material constitutes the FIRST studio recordings with the full band. This 7" is limited to 500 copies, so act quick! The band features keyboardist Kenny Gilmore (Lilys), bassist Tim Koh (White Magic, All Night Radio), drummer Aaron Sperske (Beachwood Sparks, Lilys), and guitarist Cole M. Greif-Neill (The Samps).

JANUARY 2009
Black Moth Super Rainbow - Don't You Want To Be In A Cult b/w Feel the Drip (picture disc)
A rad picture disc, this record marks the first new material following the band's acclaimed 2007 release Dandelion Gum and the Suicide Squeeze "Zodiac Girls" 7".

Golden Triangle - Golden Triangle (12”)
The second release of the month comes from Golden Triangle. This amazing band has toured with the likes of The Black Lips, King Khan, Quintron and Miss Pussycat and play damaged psyched out garage rock w/ dual female vocals. Contains six new tracks and a Redd Kross cover!

MARCH 2009
Valet (12”)
Portland native Honey Owens' is a touring member of bands like Deerhunter and Jackie O' Motherfucker, and has released two albums under the Valet moniker. Her last album on the Kranky label called Naked Acid was one of our favorite albums from this year - a hypnotic, tribal record that really does feel like a long, beautiful acid trip.

Kurt Vile (10”)
Philadelphia's Kurt Vile has been making a name for himself by releasing lo-fi CDR's of his music for years (bedroom psych-pop if you will), and released one of 2008's most under-appreciated releases, "Constant Hitmaker" on Gulcher (Highly Recommended, so go pick up a copy). He writes some of the best pop songs we've heard in a long time and is definitely one to watch out for in the upcoming years.

MAY 2009
Wooden Shjips (12”)
Dreamy 4-piece psyche ride hailing from San Francisco.

Bobby BeauSoleil & The Orkustra (2xLP w/ unreleased material)
This will be the definitive Orkustra release, compiling almost all of the recordings the band made (on a 4 track in their rehearsal space) and will feature paintings and liner notes from BeauSoleil.

Much more to come on these two releases soon!
