- Orson Welles
For over a decade, Dov Simens has been Hollywood's greatest film instructor.
Voted "America's #1 Film Instructor" by the National Association of Film Schools, and having taught at USC, NYU, UCLA and over 18 other major universities and film schools around the world, Dov has been revolutionizing the film industry with his 2-day Film School that packs four years of film education into a single weekend.
Hollywood Film Institute Founder, Dov Simens brings his Intensive, 2-Day Crash course to Detroit on Saturday and Sunday, July 25th and 26th, at MotorCity Casino for those who are serious – yet practical about entering the fastest growing industry in Michigan- The Film industry.
Some of Dov’s former students include-Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill), Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), Chris Nolan (The Dark Knight), Robert Rodriguez (Sin City), Guy Ritchie (Snatch) and Emo Phillips (Meet the Parents) are just some of the filmmakers who based their first successes on the quality information they received from Dov S-S Simens and his intensive film courses.Writer/Producer/Director, Tarantino says, “I listened to Dov on HFI’s (Hollywood Film Institute) tapes…and immediately shot Reservoir Dogs.” Spike Lee, another Dov disciple, said that ‘Following Dov’s class, I dropped out of film school, made “She’s Gotta Have It”, and launched my career.”
Event promoter, Jean-Claude Lewis, a filmmaker himself, had taken Dov’s class via the DVD format a few years ago and believes the time is now for prospective film careers to become a reality, and adds, “the only thing more exciting than seeing the next great filmmaker come out of Michigan- is seeing that filmmaker stay in Michigan.” Lewis is a published author of the historical time-trip, CP Time, and is presently producing the film adaptation of it.
Says co-promoter, www.FilmingInDetroit.com’s, Jenny Feterovich, “This is a great opportunity for someone creative who dreamed of going to film school, but chose another career, and now find themselves in a buyout or displaced due to the economy, here’s a chance to really learn the business of movies from the guy who taught Quentin Tarantino and Spike Lee for a fraction of the cost of film school.”
Both classes start at 8:30AM include a lunch and continue to 6PM
