The Beat Hounds
We got to the Cadieux Cafe a little early to meet with friends and see The Beat Hounds from Brooklyn, NY. The dim and "rustic" Cadieux can be counted on to be exactly the same every time. Basking in the aroma of mussels and dust, we watched feather bowling and played slop darts while we waited for the band to go on. Pomfrites, cookies and beer made it extra Motorcity Special (haha).
I had a chance to quickly preview The Beat Hounds debut album before the show, so I knew I was in for good rock n roll. I met the very friendly Matt and David while the first band was playing but it was impossible to talk over the music, so I didn't get to ask how "Brooklyn Southern Rock" came about. When they went on, I grabbed the best seat up front to sneak in a few pics and then got out of the way of the captivated audience. Even though I had only had one listen through the album, I recognized the songs as they were played. They call themselves The Beat Hounds, but the music is guitar-driven. An updated version of classic rock with a southern flavor and very soulful vocals. Matt's skillful guitar playing is fun to watch and the bands classic sound is even more powerful in person. Seeing them live made instant fans out of everyone there.

We had to dash after the show for the trek home, but we will catch up with The Beat Hounds again whenever they visit Detroit. It's a guaranteed good time.
Speaking of good times...SEE YOU SATURDAY!!!
Cheers,
