Wild At Heart
Been having some fun watching the Olympics and checking out the Academy Award nominated films. Watching Denmark vs Russia in curling right now but really enjoyed the women's Biathlon and the speed skating this week. Is it just because you watch these sports once every 4 years that they seem more interesting. Of the 121 nominations for the Academy Awards, I am almost halfway through the list thanks to seeing Captain Phillips (a decent film which I enjoyed more than I thought), Philomena (ditto, with great acting by Judi Dench) and the Academy Award Live Action Shorts. The shorts is pretty strong this year with the beautiful "Helium" a hospital janitor spins a fantasy tale for a dying kid to console him, "Just Before Losing Everything" where a woman is trying to leave town with her kids to avoid her abusive husband, "That Wasn't Me" as three doctors get captured by rebels in Africa and we wonder if they will survive and my favorite "The Voorman Problem" as a psychiatrist visits a patient who thinks he is a god and he might be right. If these play anywhere near you, these are a must to check out.
If you prefer music like me, here are some concerts you can check out this week:
Tuesday (2/11) - Kings Of Leon @ Palace of Auburn Hills
Wednesday (2/12) - Arctic Monkeys @ the Fillmore
Thursday (2/13) - Tommy Castro @ Callahans
Friday (2/14) - Airbourne Toxic Event @ the Fillmore, the Octopus @ PJs Lager House, America @ Andiamos Celebrity Showroom
Saturday (2/15) - Billy Joel @ Palace of Auburn Hills, Eric Burdon and the Animals @ Ceasars Windsor
I wanted to share these pics of a balloon sculpture that showed in my area this week. Airigami who has been gaining some international fame recently put together an installation of Jack and the Beanstalk. This was 5 full stories and has amazing detail. Enjoy!!
