Disney is coming to downtown Royal Oak on October 3rd, 2008
“Family Fun Night”
1.) A free drive-in Disney movie for the public on the property located at I-696 and Main Street.
2.) Extended hours for the downtown businesses with food sampling at downtown restaurants.
3.) A kid’s castle at the Fresard Bump Shop location (6th and Main).
4.) Free parking from 5:00PM to 8:00PM.
Stopping in 30 cities nationwide, Disney reps will be stationed at two high-tech kiosks at Third near Main, and at Fifth and Washington around 4-6 p.m. They'll give visitors a chance to win a celebration vacation to a Disney park and to register for a special birthday surprise. They'll also hand out free 15-inch Mickey Mouse balloons to the kids.
Overcome by Magic Kingdom fairy dust, several downtown business owners, with help from the Downtown Development Authority and the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce, have planned a "Family Fun Night" event from 5-8 p.m. to coincide with the Disney visit.
Kids are invited to come dressed as their favorite Disney character and stop by the inflatable castle at Sixth and Main (Jim Fresard's Body Shop lot) for face painting and a coloring contest. Stores will be open until 8 p.m., and many merchants will offer discount savings. There will be samplings of the city's cuisine and special offers during a walking restaurant tour, plus parking will be free throughout downtown and in the parking structures from 5-8 p.m. Families can wrap up the evening at a free drive-in Disney movie starting at dusk on the city's undeveloped property at Main and I-696 across from the Detroit Zoo. For more info, call the Chamber of Commerce at (248) 547-4000 or the DDA at (248) 246-3286.
