PJ's Lager House Lineup

We ran into PJ from Lager House yesterday over the MCB booth at PAF...
He filled us in on the great lineup this week in particular and wanted to extend an invitation to all our readers to come on out and hang at PJLH.
Its been a year now that PJ took over the corktown staple and after lots of fix up work and the challenges that new ownership brings he is happy with the last 365 and looking forward to many more...With a "no-cover" shows (unless noted) and cheap drinks he has seen many bands who promote themselves properly walk out the door with 4 figure payouts.
We usually would pick 1 show from the PJLH lineup and post it but this week in recognition of PJ - Carrie - and rest of the LH staff (Hey Karen!) we raise our glass to you!
Here is the lineup for the week:
All shows 21+ and no cover unless otherwise noted.
Monday, September 22 - TONIGHT!!!
Jambang (f/Greg Ginn of Black Flag and SST Records) & the Taylor Texas Corrugators
10pm
If you missed it the first time around, don't miss it this time!!! Greg Ginn had such a good time last time he came through Detroit back on June 16th, he's already back again. You thought a man who was in Black Flag would only be all about punk and metal, eh? WRONG! Don't miss this night you thought you'd never see (again)… it's a long way from Henry Rollins. Jambang is the latest project in the Greg Ginn (of SST Records and formerly of Black Flag) catalog of sound. Jambang offers listeners a hybrid of electronic and organic instrumentation. Ginn mans both the guitar and the electronic sections. The group's debut release, Connecting, is the result of an eclectic blend of artists and musicians united by the common thread of their love of jambands and improvisation. Ginn's other group, The Texas Taylor Corrugators, will also be playing. Their slogan, "I'm not really a redneck, I just play one on TV" sums up this country style rhythm and swing band. They provide a toe tappin' backdrop to the usual suspects of Texas Swing.
Tuesday, September 23
The Terrible Twos w/The Intelligence, Druid Perfume
10pm
The Terrible Twos are one of the main components of local label X! Records—frantic, straight-up punk from this Detroit five-piece. Get your face blown off and then some; go to the bar for a $3 Jameson shot and be back for more. "You're like getting electrocuted," they were told by a Green Bay fan. The Intelligence are dancepunk, garage, lo-fi, no wave and, above all, energetic and loud. Their music sounds simultaneously claustrophobic and uncontainable with tight rhythms and relentless vigor butting up against pounding drums and fuzzy, echoing vocals. The effect is a peculiarly harsh but satisfying final product. They're noisy nursery rhyme melodies in a synth-punk dungeon. Druid Perfume is a four-piece from Ferndale that fits straight into the evening's kickass lineup. You will have a good time watching, if not participating in, this three-pronged Tuesday night freak show.
Wednesday, September 24
Freak Juice
10pm
Freak Juice is a band that is pushing the boundaries of traditional rock music by infusing jazz, hip-hop, reggae, blues and the art of improvisation into a new, fresh and invigorating wall of sound. Each member of the present line-up is a seasoned professional with many years of experience on stage as well as in the studio. Tori Ruffin, the bands founder and chief visionary, has said that although he has been fortunate enough to work with some of the biggest names in the music bizness, he feels even more fortunate to have found the newest additions to the Freak Juice family. This group is based in part out of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Thursday, September 25
SRC Thursdays with Gary Quackenbush
10pm
$4
Come down to PJ's Lager House every Thursday in September for a rocking good time with Detroit rock legend Gary Quackenbush! Quackenbush is a founding member of the venerable SRC and will be playing the SRC hits and other classics live onstage every Thursday. Many of the songs are featured on his first solo album, GQ In A Shade of Blue, out on SRC Records. Don't miss this chance for an intimate brush with Detroit rock history! The first twenty people in the door get a free CD-- choose from five different SRC releases. This is a fantastic deal for only $4... a live show AND a CD.
Friday, September 26
The Budget Sinners w/The Mantons, Rachel Brooke
10pm
$5
Local group The Budget Sinners is fronted by Detroit veteran Tim Pak (ex-Salt miners, Angry Red Planet) on vocals and guitar, features hard-hitting drumming from Ryan Looney and the bass playing of Ed Sertage. Eric James Myers, previously of Warhorses, brings the licks on lead guitar. The Budget Sinners are funtime Americana. It's time to break out the whiskey. The Mantons are lean and mean. Nobody has ever given them an inch; they probably never will. That's because people are afraid of a band that tells it like it is. But, in the end, The Mantons Do The Thing That Must Be Done. They are Here, for You. Enjoy. Rachel Brooke comes armed with an acoustic guitar, dusty and seemingly timeless vocals. Brooke minds Old-Time Country & Folk in her own sweet irresistible way!
Saturday, September 27
The Cetan Clawson Revolution w/The Pack AD, The Straightbacks
10pm
Folks just can't get enough of The Cetan Clawson Revolution. Twenty-year old Clawson is a true rock and blues virtuoso and the bassist and drummer aren't anything to scoff at either. Come out to see him—you truly won't regret it; this guy has amazing skills. Clawson may be the best rock'n'roll guitarist in North America at this time. The Pack AD is a female two-piece from British Columbia. They take life on the road, Civil War stories, coffee and cigarettes, and stir them into a vicious concoction of garage rock and Jack Daniels then boil it alive in the blues. This Vancouver duo strikes with a raw, hell-torn, blues-rock swagger that is equally contemplative and unflinching. The Straightbacks are a youthful hard-hitting five piece from Holly; a perfecting mix of The Strokes, Interpol and Lee Marvin Computer Arm
(We caught PJ in the crowd last night at CCR closed out the PAF2008 - nice!)
