Mark Ravenilli's play Shopping and F***Ing is at The Ringwald Theatre in Ferndale until September 24th. The Ringwald Theatre does an excellent job of bringing counter cultural classics like David Sedaris gems and unusual edgy plays like this one to its roster. In Shopping and F***ing I enjoyed the mix of comedy and heavy emotional content. All of the actors are exceptional.
The energy is tense and viseral in nature. Just as a heads up there is a lot of violence and adult situations in this production. I enjoyed the visual references. The 90s era "E" tablets, Adidas messenger bag, ramen noodles and Doc martin boots. The play was rich with imagery and the actors' adept english accents and tarty comments. Some humorous points were a recounting of a hookup with Ginger Spice and some sex phone operator calls. I felt a bit miffed by the ending I preferred the flow of the play before the final act. This play is worth checking out. It is provocative and is a potent load of imagery.
