Shiftless Decay Thursday 1:
The Frustrations & The Mahonies
10pm

February 5th is the opening night of our February partnership with local Detroit punk label X! Records. X! is promoting their Shiftless Decay compilation by offering a free show with two different Shiftless Decay bands every Thursday of February. The compilation will be available for sale in both vinyl and CD form at each Thursday show. Shiftless Decay Thursdays kicks off with The Frustrations, the youngest band on the X roster. The Frustrations released their first full-length last fall and received a gaggle of positive reviews from a wide variety of sources. Jimmy Alvarado from Razorcake says, "They aren't afraid of being noisy as hell, but they're sure to temper it with more traditional song structure and some much-needed drive." The Mahonies are a kickass two-piece drums-and-guitar band, with Craig Brown from the Terrible Twos on the beat. Each band will play two sets.

Flatfoot Record Release Party w/The Drinking Problem, Kelly Jean Caldwell
10pm

Flatfoot was formed in East Lansing during the fall of 2000 by brothers Aaron and Jason Bales. They play rock and roll with some twang, pop sensibilities and punk energy. The show tonight celebrates their newest release, "Wild Was Our Mercy." The Drinking Problem is the brainchild of The Sights' Eddie Baranek, The Pop Project's Dave Lawson and Solitary State's Jeremy Stork. Kelly Jean Caldwell was conceived in the U.P. on Halloween night of 1977 in the dugout of a Little League baseball field. Her first song was written about a beautiful silver doorknokb in the bathroom of her 2nd grade classroom. Shortly thereafter, KJC formed her first band, SAVACALD, with her cousins and brother. After moving south a bit later in life, she joined the Ann Arbor band And Spiders and went on to cocntribute nicely to The Black Forest Girls, Showdown At The Equator and Saturday Looks Good To Me, among others. KJC has two solo albums out: "September Girl" and "Banner of A Hundred Hearts."
