Gogol Bordello
Live at the Royal Oak Music Theatre
Tuesday June 2nd 2009
AEG Live presents Gogol Bordello.
Come and witness the bizarre and fantastic theatrics of the ‘Gypsy Punks’ live at the Royal Oak Music Theatre Tuesday, June 2, 2009.
Gogol Bordello is a multiethnic Gypsy punk band from the Lower East Side of New York City that formed in 1999 and is known for their theatrical stage shows. They are a band that looks, sounds, and generally acts over-the-top. However, front man Eugene Hutz is a truly great vocalist and one-of-a-kind showman, and his band creates such an indefinable, chaotic ball of noise even seasoned ears may feel a little disoriented. “The people in the band bounce energy off each other and that’s what we capture on the record,” Eugene Hutz said in a statement.
The band’s sound is described in its bio as “supercharged music based on a brutal gypsy two-step rhythm that sounds like an Eastern European cousin of ska augmented by punk, metal, rap, flamenco, roots reggae, Italian spaghetti, Western twang, dub and other sounds generated by gypsies and rebels from across the globe.”
Gogol Bordello released their first album Voi-La Intruder in 1999. The album reinforced the bands’ standing as an influential and inspirational force in music. Since their first release, the band has collaborated with powerhouse artists like Madonna, Primus, Flogging Molly, and Cake. They continue to take audiences captive and will soon arrive at Royal Oak Music Theatre.
