Fighting through a "man cold," former Ultravox and Visage frontmen Midge Ure lit up the Magic Bag with an uplifting set of vintage new-wave gold. The somewhat subdued crowd was somewhat in awe of having a legendray artist in such an intimate atmosphere, but as the night progressed the barriers came down and rock and roll happened. The set was peppered with originals and Ultravox material. The latter of the two really got the crowd going.
Backing band Right The Stars played flawlessly, adding a crispness to the material that made it seem as current as anything on the radio right now. Midge seemed genuinely pleased to be back in front his U.S. fanbase and mentioned he was trying to bring the Ultravox lads back with him soon. Judging from the crowd reaction, this would be a good idea. As the band hit the sweet spot of the set, UV material like "Vienna" and "One Small Day" all the pieces fell together.
