NORTH BY NORTHEAST (NXNE) announces that Grammy award winning recording artist Ludacris, star of Fast & Furious 6, will headline the show on Sunday, June 16 at Yonge-Dundas Square that currently features Joey Bada$$, Smif N' Wessun, Fat Tony, The Underachievers and Mickey Avalon. Three-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist, actor, philanthropist and restaurateur Ludacris has gained worldwide acclaim for over ten years with hits like Stand Up, Get Back, Number One Spot, Money Maker, and My Chick Bad.
Unfortunately, Big Boi is recovering from a serious knee injury and will be unable to attend NXNE this year as previously announced. He expresses his deepest regrets for his absence.
NXNE also presents The Lottery Series where NXNE wristband and pass holders can gain free entry to some of the hottest shows in Toronto including The Weeknd on Thursday, June 13 at the Virgin Mobile Mod Club. The NXNE Lottery Series also includes Agnostic Front at Hard Luck Bar, Rancid and Dropkick Murphys at Echo Beach, NXNE alumni Portugal. NXNE Interactive, presented by Kobo, Toronto’s own global leader in eReading, has confirmed that the Toronto Music City Initiative - initially announced last year at NXNE - is back with a panel on Thursday, June 13 to launch the “44/79” brand, designed to activate all artists, industry supporters, and fans of the Toronto music community. Using the Austin, Texas model, the campaign hopes to create more awareness about Toronto’s music scene, more opportunities for live music in Toronto and a more music-friendly City Hall. Participating in the discussion will be Graham Henderson (Music Canada), Mike Tanner (NXNE), Jesse Kumagai (Massey Hall) and Andrew Weir (Tourism Toronto).
Kobo will also present the NXNEi Influencer party on Thursday, June 13 at The Hoxton with a performance by Boys Noize, AKA Alexander Ridha. The Berlin-based DJ/producer spits out remixes ranging from David Lynch to The Chemical Brothers, Snoop Dogg and N*E*R*D.
Canadian-owned music video network OnAir.FM and NXNE have partnered to provide worldwide exposure to the 1000 NXNE bands playing the festival. All 2013 NXNE Music artists have been asked to create an original creative video for distribution on the official NXNE YouTube channel. OnAir.FM will promote these videos to their 110 million monthly viewers around the world. This collaborative relationship will expand the global reach for NXNE artists through OnAir.FM through exposure to an international audience.
