Hailing from Melbourne, up-and-coming duo Big Scary, make ethereal guitar and piano driven rock music. Their 2013 release Not Art was nominated for Australian Album of the Year in the triple j poll and won the Austrailian Music Prize, the Austrialian equivilent of the Mercury Music Prize. The duo formed in 2006 and gave released 7 EPs and 2 albums in that time. The band is comprised of Tom Iansek on vocals, guitar, and piano, and drummer Jo Syme who contributes vocals as well. Big Scary have been remixed my Dan The Automator, The Antlers, and will be playing Washington's the Sasquatch! Music Festival this upcoming weekend. Not Art was produced by Big Scary's Tom Iansek and was mixed by Grammy Winner, Tom Elmhirst, who has worked with some of the biggest names in music including Arcade Fire, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Hot Chip, Paulo Nutini and Goldfrapp. This might be Big Scary's first time playing in Detroit, but it certainly will not be their last.
