Come to the Lawrence Street Gallery during the month of August to see the recent work of a select group of members of the Sculptors Guild of Michigan. The opening reception at 6:00 p.m., August 6, is open to the public and will include light refreshments as well as an opportunity to meet the artists. The professional vitality of the artists invited to join the Guild is evident in their varied styles and media.  Ranging from abstract to realism, these talented sculptors capture subjects in myriad kinds of materials — stone, metal, wood, clay, bronze, found objects, glass, concrete, paper maiche and more.

The goals of the Guild, founded in 1952, are to create and exhibit high quality sculpture, hold workshops to improve and add to skills, to enrich the community’s appreciation of sculpture and to provide a milieu where people of like interest can encourage and interact with each other creatively.

The following is a list of the sculptors featured in this exhibition, where they are from and the media in which they work.  Also attached are images of some of the pieces to be displayed.

Sharon Bida, from Plymouth, uses found objects to create abstract pieces.
Marily Bomarito, from Trenton, works in clay to create figurative pieces.
Rosemary Busch, Farmington, works in wood, stone, clay, or bronze in realistic and abstract styles.
Eva Cushing,  Farmington Hills, works in mixed media and clay in a contemporary style.
Earle Davis, from Clarkston, works in terra-cotta, bronze or stone to create works in a style called contemporary expressionism.
Mary Ellen Dohrs,  Royal Oak, works in bronze or terra cotta to create figurative pieces.
Daren Dundee, Clinton Township, uses found objects and mixed media to fashion pieces that reflect his humorous observations.
Pauline Flaga of Clawson, brings a multi-media approach to figuative pieces.
Connie Flechsig of Bingham Farms, works in clay, stone and wood in a realistic style.
Julie Herridge of Royal Oak works in clay in a realistic style.
Steve Miller of Bloomfield Township works in works in bronze, gypsum or terra cotta to create figurative pieces.
Sophia Myers of Troy, works in clay to create figurative pieces.
John Wargelin of Bloomfield Township works in wood or stone to create both abstract and representational pieces.
Bernadette Zachara of Farmington Hills works in terra cotta, bronze or cement to create figuratie pieces ranging in size from small to life-size.
Margarita Ziegler of Farmington Hills works with clay in the style called figurative expressionism.
