The Mitten Movie Project is a monthly film festival dedicated to screening independent films on the first Tuesday of every month at the Main Art Theater in Royal Oak. The MMP is pulling in steady crowds every month and had a 150+ attendance last month!
September's lineup looks really interesting: Featured prominently is 8 Mile Road in the documentary, “My Own Private 8 Mile”; revered Detroit bluesman, Harmonica Shah, in “The Man with the Blue Eyes”; and many local landmarks in the music video, “Michigan”. Headlining the night is “The Point”, a touching and well-made short by Chuck Grady which features a basketball player that comes to grip with losing his mother to cancer.
"Being a filmmaker, myself, I really enjoy selecting the shorts that are played at the Mitten Movie Project. I look forward to hearing audience reaction to films and hearing about what people liked and don't like at the afterparty,"explained curator Connie Mangilin on one of the many reasons she organizes the festival. "There's nothing like audience feedback to an independent filmmaker."
Tickets are available on the Mitten Movie Project's
myspace page for $8 and at the door for $10.
