Detroit based Bars of Gold, the raucous indie rock quintet
consisting of former Bear vs. Shark front man
Marc Paffi and drummer Brandon Moss, have
announced their new LP Wheels, due
out October 28th on indie imprint Belly Ache Records. Recorded in Detroit by Chris Koltay (Akron/Family, The Dirtbombs, Talib Kweli,
Tyvek, Human Eye) at High Bias
Recordings,
Wheels consists of ten tracks of bright laden guitars and warm
driving basslines brought home by the haunting growls of Paffi's unique vibrato,
creating an aggressive and passionate 40 minutes that captures the energy of
their notoriously chaotic live shows.
Rounded off by
members of the improvisational, freak-out-jazz instrumental outfit, Wildcatting (Scott Iulianelli, Ben Audette, Nick
Jones, as well as Moss), Wheels is a record
more than two years in the making, as a result of the factors that inform its
own conceptual theme balancing of band life with family life in spite of the
wide geographic distance between the band members.Much of Wheels was written in
a remote northwestern Pennsylvania cabin equipped with zero amenities. The band
would travel from Detroit with a generator to power equipment, in order to meet
drummer, Brandon Moss who was traveling from Washington
DC.
