New York City singer/songwriter Jillette Johnson released her gorgeous Wind-up Records debut album, Water in a Whale, on June 25, 2013. It debuted on several charts including: #12 on the iTunes Pop Chart, #13 on both the Billboard Heatseekers and New Artist Charts and #28 on the Pop Chart.
Written by Jillette Johnson and produced by Peter Zizzo (Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, Vanessa Carlton) and Michael Mangini (David Byrne, Joss Stone), Water in a Whale is the follow up to her 2012 critically acclaimed EP, Whiskey & Frosting.
All of Johnson’s songs tell a compelling story that draws the listener in. Her depth and maturity in her songwriting, her soaring vocals and lyrics that prove to be everything from controversial to comforting to spiritually arousing has garnered praise from Cosmopolitan Magazine who said Jillette is their “…latest obsession…,” Baeble Music says “With a voice like Adele and a songwriting style akin to Fiona Apple, it's easy to see why Jillette Johnson has so many people excited” and Hello Giggles, the website founded by actress/musician Zooey Deschanel, boasts “I guarantee most of your friends haven’t heard her music, so this will be your chance to be totally hipster and know her before she was ‘mainstream.’ And trust! She will be on every radio station soon.” The accolades continue with Nylon Magazine exclaiming, “Her VOICE. Jillette can sing and she’s not afraid to let everyone know about it” and The Daily Front Row gushing that “…she’s the best of what Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, and Adele have to offer. Melancholy and powerful, poetic and whimsical, her voice is a powerhouse.”
