Paint Creek Center for the Arts presents Graphic Playground, a four-person group show that features drawings, paintings and prints that share a bold graphic design sensibility. Some artists combine abstract compositions with figurative representation; others generate their works through the use of abstract geometric patterns. The four come together in a dynamic exhibit that showcases their individual approaches.
Joseph Bergman (Ann Arbor, MI) is a retired professor of art and design at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. He has exhibited his drawings and other works in Michigan and all over the United States since 1974. His color and monochromatic drawings show a playful sense of composition with expressive line work.
Jackie Brown (Rochester, MI) creates paintings that combine elements of graffiti and street art with vivid color. His highly charged compositions address social and political concerns, with an eye toward mass media and pop culture.
Dorothy Anderson Grow (Traverse City, MI) makes one-of-a-kind monotypes and unique variations of monoprints. She begins each work with a line drawing or monotype, then overlaps, overprints and collages, allowing each work to evolve in its own way. Her method is a process of experimentation and discovery.
Mark Piotrowski (Bay City, MI) creates rhythmic, loopy abstract images using enamel on shaped panels. The crisp lines and hard edges evoke medallions, flowers, snowflakes, crystals and other symmetrical geometric forms.
Please join us in welcoming these four artists at a Closing Reception on Friday, September 21st, 6:00 – 9:00 pm. This opening reception is part of the Downtown Rochester Fall Gallery Stroll.
Admission to the closing reception and gallery stroll are free and open to the public.
This exhibit is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs,
