Show Preview: Skylar Grey & TeamMate, Pike Room, Wednesday, July 17

This Wednesday the Pike Room is hosting two sure to be big stars in the near future - actually one already is. First up is Teammate:

They always tell you to focus on the positive after a breakup and maybe breakups happen for a reason, for proof I offer TeamMate. TeamMate members Dani Butcher and Scott Simons were together for 10 years before the breakup occurred. However, the result after remaining good friends is a band with catchy rhythms  and a strong bond. Yes, there is a band you could closely compare them to with a female drummer and a male singer that plays keyboards (Matt & Kim). But that would be too easy as TeamMate have an infectious pop sound that soars along with heavy themes.  You can hear them on their new ep out called The Sequel.

Next up is the aforementioned star, Skylar Grey:

Skylar Grey is a five-time GRAMMY-nominated singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who is responsible for co-writing some of the most memorable songs of the past couple years. Ironically, while spending time away from the music industry and living in a cabin in the woods, she penned Eminem’s/Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie,” which became one of the biggest songs of their careers. This lead to Grey writing Dr. Dre’s “I Need A Doctor,” which she performed alongside Dre and Eminem at the 53rd GRAMMY Awards ceremony, Diddy Dirty Money’s “Coming Home,” Lupe Fiasco’s “Words I Never Said,” T.I.’s “Castle Walls” and most recently, Kaskade’s “Room For Happiness” (she wrote and sang on two versions of the song, which became the album's third single). Her work has lit up the Billboard Hot 100 and iTunes sales charts, totaling more than 15 million singles sold globally.
She recently released her debut full-length solo album DON'T LOOK DOWN, which is set to be released on July 9, 2013, and features several guest appearances. With her ability to cross multiple genres seamlessly, we never know what to expect from this versatile songstress.
