Life-long childhood friends and romantic partners Alyssa and Doug Graham recently released their first album as The Grahams, produced by Malcolm Burn and entitled Riverman’s Daughter, via CEN/RED Distribution.

Riverman's Daughter was produced by Grammy-winner Malcolm Burn and unveils a truly unique and captivating narrative: Alyssa and Doug put their New York City lives on hold, and armed with just guitars and backpacks traveled the 2,500 miles of highways and byways of the Mississippi, from Minnesota to Louisiana.

Riverman’s Daughter is not only a re-telling of this journey, but a true concept album that vividly lures the listener into the gigs at various gin and juke joints along the Great River Road, meeting a colorful cast of characters and genuine music makers along the way with whom The Grahams exchanged stories through the common bond of song. Yet perhaps the biggest inspiration on Riverman’s Daughter was Doug’s own mother, Gigi, the matriarch of the Graham family clan and true fan of the duo who had been diagnosed with cancer earlier that year. As her condition worsened, The Grahams picked up their guitars and newly minted collection of songs in the service of Gigi’s “angel band,” and played by her side until she passed away.

Before forming The Grahams, Alyssa and Doug have collaborated on two Alyssa Graham albums, winning considerable critical acclaim and have performed at downtown New York City clubs such as Joe's Pub, The Living Room and Rockwood Music Hall, as well as nationally and internationally from California to Paris, London, Tokyo, and beyond.

Riverman's Daughter was recorded in Nashville entirely live to tape without headphones or isolation-a choice that transposes to the album the naturalness and immediacy that characterized the writing. The album was recorded with mostly simple acoustic accompaniment by Malcolm Burn (bass, piano, guitar, backing vocals), Bryan Owings (drums, percussion), Phil Madeira (guitar, dobro, lap steel, mando guitar), Colin Linden (banjo, dobro, electric guitar), Steve Fishell (pedal steel, dobro) and Chris Carmichael (strings). The Grammy-nominated North Mississippi Allstars' Luther and Cody Dickinson (guitars and drums, respectively) play on several tracks.
