The Decemberists wsg/ Heartless Bastards
Tuesday, August 11, 2009.
Tickets go on sale Friday, April 17th at 5pm.
The Decemberists hail from Portland Oregon and are fronted by singer/songwriter Colin Meloy. Other band members include Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query, and John Moen. The sound they employ ranges from whimsical to dark, and often invokes historical events and themes from around the world. As quoted from Colin Meloy, “There’s an odd bond between the music of the British folk revival and classic metal. A natural connection between, like, Fairport Convention and Black Sabbath – of course, Sandy Denny from Fairport even sang with Led Zeppelin on “The Battle of Evermore.’ I think there’s a shared sense of narrative and ambience, of moving beyond the first person in your writing. And I thought it would be interesting to mess around with that.”

The band’s fifth full-length album, The Hazards of Love, was released March 24, 2009 by Capitol Records. The album comes with an expansive fairy-tale story line and is The Decemberists’ most ambitious, textured, and intense project to date.
