MUSIC HALL WANTS TO GIVE YOU THE GIFT OF CULTURE!
It’s a FREE event with legendary Dancer/Choreographer, Akram Khan’s multi-cultural & eye-popping, Bahok. Wednesday, February 24th 8PM
Akram Khan, the award-winning dancer and choreographer, and the prestigious National Ballet of China’s major international collaboration, Bahok, comes to Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts for a FREE show on Wednesday, February 24th at 8PM.
It’s the cultural institution’s way of thanking its patrons, as well as giving an incentive for people to check out the amazing and culturally diverse programming while taking in the beautiful and acoustically perfect venue, built in 1928.
Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist, Akram Khan’s fascinating cross-cultural collaboration, originally created with National Ballet of China, comes to Music Hall following a world tour. *Bahok*, named after the Bengali word meaning ‘carrier’, explores the ways in which the body carries national identity and a sense of belonging. *Khan’s* dancers come from diverse cultures, traditions and dance backgrounds – Chinese, Korean, Indian, South African and Spanish – and this rich mix of both spoken and dance language pushes the boundaries of movement vocabulary.
This is a unique collaboration for both Akram Khan Company and China’s classical ballet flagship company. Khan has drawn together the two companies’ differing cultural perspectives and diverse dance styles making Bahok one of the most exciting cultural events of 2008 anywhere in the world.
Bahok is directed and choreographed by Khan and combines the dynamics of modern China, elements of Chinese folk dancing and Kathak, as well as western/modern and classical dance influences. Khan’s long time collaborator multi-award winning composer Nitin Sawhney has created the music especially for Bahok.
