James Pettis

James Pettis was a child protégé, performing even the most complicated compositions of classical music on the piano at the tender age of five years old. He began his career under the tutelage of pianist, Janie Hill. He attended Armstrong High School in Richmond, Virginia where he received numerous awards for his piano competitions. Pettis has trained at the Julliard School in New York City and holds the distinction of being the first African American concert pianist to be engaged to perform on the cruise ship, Queen Elizabeth II. Pettis has made numerous appearances on the award winning CBS Soap Opera, Guiding Light and has worked with such notables as James Earl Jones and Gordon Parks.

The Luther Badman Keith Blues Band

The Luther Badman Keith Blues Band is a Detroit Music Award winning blues band. Mr. Keith and his Badman Blues Band, plays a mixture of blues, funk and soul. Keith's CDs include the 2003 Thunder In My Blues, which was nominated for a Detroit Music Award for Outstanding Blues Recording and the self-titled Badman, which was released in 1999.


Tickets are $15.00 for General Seating or $30.00 for Reserved Seating, which include a 1-year membership in the Friends of the E. Azalia Hackley Collection.

The concert will be held in the Friends Auditorium at the Detroit Public Library located at 5201 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202.
