Danava (OR), Thrones (OR) and Chapstik!
PJ's Lager House
1254 Michigan Ave
Corktown Detroit USA
Although Danava (pronounced DON-UH-VUH) of Portland, OR play the type of ferociously intense, foundation-rattling, rock and roll that might righteously justify some good old fashioned head-banging, vocalist Gregory Meleney wants you to know that he doesn't consider his band a metal outfit.Nor are they prog-rock, or part of whatever movement someone just came up with to try to lump a bunch of disparate bands together. Meleney has as much use for genre tags as folks on the Titanic did for bottled water.

We can tell you that they have alot of hair, and they come ready to rock your face off.

Thrones is the solo project of bassist Joe Preston from Portland, Oregon. Previously a member of Earth, Melvins and High On Fire, Thrones began in 1994 with an untitled cassette on the Punk in My Vitamins? label, and has since released on Communion Records and Kill Rock Stars. His other  recording projects include  White Rabbit, White Rabbit, White Rabbit, and a compilation of various Thrones material spanning from 1994 to 2001 was released by Southern Lord Records under the title Day Late, Dollar Short.
Thrones began regularly performing live again in May 2006, although there were sporadic live appearances during this period supporting bands such as Sunn O))), using Moog synthesizers.
Chapstik! One cannot extol the virtues of stoner rock enough, the oft-misunderstood and critically underappreciated subgenre of rock 'n' roll. In fact, by hurling fistfuls of thunder and speed, bands like Chapstik (in all their blue collar Thor glory) appeal to the baser self, the self that cannot resist the power of the head bang and the flashing of the metal sign -- the self that knows why it feels so good to be bad.Chapstik is pure adrenaline.
