Anyway - we thought it would nice to get some insight about good ol dietroit
She loves music, men & drinking
So i've been a little bit lazy lately...
but i blame Vegas!!
Lauretta & I spent the last weekend in Feb there drinking far too much and going to The Cheesecake Factory.. and it's taken me a while to fully recover... Well it was amazing if you're interested, although the rule is we can't talk about it...
but i can tell you i got a new tattoo.
I'd been thinking for a while about what i wanted to get, and decided after having some drinks that i wanted to get one that weekend.
So here i am with 'Little Miss Detroit'
tattooed on the back of my neck.
No color or text though. I may add that later. If you haven't heard of "Little Miss Detroit' then you obviously haven't checked out www.detroitmfg.com because they sell the t-shirts online, and they are super cool! They also sell Mr Detroit shirts & other detroit clothing... Check it out!!

So after getting back hungover as crap, on Dr Zeus's birthday, we ventured out to The Crofoot in Pontiac to see and interview 'Y.A.C.H.T'!!
Yacht consists of Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans. Touring for the first time with a full band, this duo were really interesting and we're glad we had the opportunity to sit down with them.
YACHT - Are you guys Australian?
Tall Kiwi Chicks- No we're from New Zealand
Y - Oh wow even better! Which city?
TKC - Christchurch? You know it?
Y - Awesome! Yeah we've toured there twice! That's so cool!
TKC - YAY!! So i heard your music has been described as 'Indies' Timbaland.
Y - Yeah, that was a quote in Vibe Magazine
TKC - How do you describe it?
Y - We try not to describe it (they say in unison). Well we try not to describe it if we dont need too. we want to let it speak for itself. Genre can be very limiting and we try to make music that is genreless. We get a huge kick out of making music that is genreless, people often say electronic music or dance music or pop music but i wouldn't say that it fit into any of those categories, and thats just the music side of it too so i think when we describe it, we say it's a Band, Belief system and business. It's more than just music for us. We try not to be too specialized.. we fear overspecialization. We don't ever want to lose touch with what we want to do. We never want to become repetitive or typecast or boring. We want to continue to evolve as music as possible and never limit ourselves.....But yeah it's pop music.
TKC - So what's your favorite Yacht song to play at the moment?
Y - Right now they're all exciting to play because we just moved, changed, evolved to having a full band, which is still very new to us. We've been on tour with the band for 10 days now with our band and thats the big thing. It feels really good right now. Our songs, they're like children to us so it's really hard to pick which one we like better, especially the songs from the new record cos they all came together in one place and one moment in time in the far west texas dessert, so for us it's a set, and thats our favorite set. We're not thinking of the older songs right now. The new-ness of it right now is really great for us. The reason we got a band in the first place is because we get really sick of what were doing every 6 months or so.. we feel like if we do the same thing too much we end up feeling slightly inauthentic in our presentation, even if we really believe in it, if we just do it too much it loses the element of fear and loses the abilility to frighten us and make us feel vulnerable. The band for us has accomplishd it's purpose and rendered the old new.
TKC - What are you most looking forward too this year?
Y - Touring LCD Soundsystem is going to be incredible. I'm also looking forward to playing in places we haven't been before like Colombia! That should be really interesting. I'm excited to bring the band to SxSW and introduce it to the greater music world, not that im superjazzed on the industry aspect of what we do, but im excited to introduce our new brothers to the world. We're playing 8 shows over 3 days. i'm excited to make a new record someday soon this year. maybe this summer. we've never made a record in summer before, so that should be interesting.
TKC - YACHT's musical highlights so far?
Y- Getting a review in the New York Times, a positive review at that. we're still very gracious and we dont take anything for granted. We made all of this music on an imac computer with one $50 microphone, so for us to beable to travel the world and come to clubs like this, for anyone to show up at all or to listen to us, let alone for the New York Times to review us is really overwhelming! And to make this whole community around it is awesome!!
TKC - Tell me something that most people won't know about your band?
Y - We're not only a band and that we're not overspecialized. We're buiding an incluive community, which is more than just music..its more about idealogy. Most people don't know that we're serious in everything we do, that's not to say we dont have senses of humour... alot of people think that some of the things we talk about are marketing schemes or jokes, which i understand but it's not .
TKC-Ok guys so we've come to the most important question of the interview.. Who would you go gay for, or, if you're gay, who would you go straight for?
Y-(Jona) Great question!! We should name 2 people to keep in Ambiguous!! I'm going to say Ginnifer Goodwin and Robert Von Kieswette from 'Bobby Birdman'.
(claire) Yolandi Visser from the great south african hip hop group 'Die Antwoord' and if you don't know who she is, do yourself a favor and google them!! And Robert Downey Jr.
YACHT were also selling a book they've written about their own ideologies 'The Secret Teachings of the Mystery Lights', which looked really facinating....Now remember i said that we had just gotten back from Vegas? Yeah well while we were waiting for YACHT to play, we started getting super sleepy and we had to leave. Our beds were calling our names!! Super bummed because they sounded great during the sound check and i was looking forward to experiencing their show!! Later I read online from other fans that were there, that it was an amazing show!!
