Thursday, April 12 at 7:00pm:
Nancy Mitchnick, painter
A homecoming for one of our own! Nancy Mitchnick has always been a revered figure in the history of Detroit's Cass Corridor art scene. She attended the Detroit Society of Arts & Crafts (CCS) and received her BFA from Wayne State, but after she left Detroit and moved to New York in 1973, she embarked on a career as painter and educator of esteemed renown. In the 1980s, she exhibited her work with Hirschl & Adler Gallery and has continued to show her work nationally throughout her career, including, locally, with Susanne Hilberry Gallery. As an educator, she has held faculty positions at Bard College, California Institute of the Arts, and just recently completed over 15 years as the Rudolf Arnheim Lecturer on Studio Arts at Harvard University. In recognition of her outstanding performance, Harvard awarded Mitchnick the Phi Beta Kappa Teaching Prize in 2001. In late 2011, Mitchnick came home to Detroit to once again be part of our thriving art community. Join us on April 12 as Mitchnick gives a talk on her interests and ideas.
