I hadn’t heard of Ed Sheeran until I read he was opening for
Snow Patrol on their current North American tour. Of course, I had to research to
learn about him and hear some songs before the show in Detroit; and I found
right away that Sheeran is awesome.
SoundCloud has
song clips to check out including “Drunk”, “Kiss Me” and more. This guy is even
featured in a Victoria’s
Secret commercial.
Ed Sheeran made the most of his time as opener showcasing
his musical talents. What’s amazing is that he played for approximately 40
minutes, but only played four songs including, “Give Me Love”, “Wayfaring Stranger”, “The
A-Team” and “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You.”
Mr. Sheeran had the crowd experience a fun set full of
styles from acoustic opening song “Give Me Love” that included audience
participation right off the bat to a sampling of beatboxing during “Wayfaring
Stranger” with more hip-hop flavor dropped for “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You.”
Ed teased fans with a bit of “It’s So Cold In The D” by
Tbaby before breaking into “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You” and sang more of it
before leaving the stage.
But that wasn’t all. Sheeran coordinated a crowd battle – West
Side Story style – by designating either side of the audience as the Sharks and
the other as the Jets. Everyone won at this show though.
If you missed the show make sure you catch Ed the next time he’s in town. Great energy and fun from the Londoner shouldn’t be missed.
