TONIGHT: Van Dyke Parks - MOCAD with Laura Finlay

This past fall, Parks announced his first new music in over 15 years with the launch of a unique series of 7" vinyl art singles with artwork by Ed Ruscha, Art Spiegelman, Frank Holmes and more. He also released Arrangements Vol. 1, a compilation of some of his greatest works, with Pitchfork saying, "the songs selected on 'Arrangements' are uniformly fantastic (8.6 'Best New Reissue')." Parks also toured with Fleet Foxes in October and has been working with Grammy-nominated artist Skrillex, which he discussed in a recent article with the LA Times.

Parks has been at the heart of some of the great albums of the last 50 years including Brian Wilson's 'lost' masterpiece Smile, Randy Newman and Ry Cooder's first recordings, and Joanna Newsom's critically acclaimed 2006 album YS. LA Weekly heralds him as "a culty wingman whose fingerprints are conspicuous on several gargantuan moments in pop history," and AV Club notes he is "one of the most distinctive, idiosyncratic contributors to the American songbook." In February, Parks performed at NPR's 'Mountain Stage' and recently released the final two installments of his 7" vinyl art singles on March 20th - 'Sassafrass/ The All Golden' featuring artwork by Billy Edd Wheeler/ Klaus Voormann and 'Missin' Missippi/ The Parting Hand" with artwork by Sally Parks/ Stanley Dorfman.
